If you are in a city, you simply do not ride by a group of African American youths. You ride the other way. Simple, street smarts. Sorry if it makes blacks feel bad, but it is simply survival. Likewise, if you are walking, you walk the other way. Avoid these areas, and avoid these people. Never let someone have the chance to sucker punch you. And I think any mention of race must also include the realities of gentrification in Northeast Portland. I think there remains resentment in the black community about gentrification…

But how can this be?

HUD is going to "integrate" all of our communities at our expense, and in the case of the (rare) return to civilization of some (small) metropolitan areas by whites there is ... resentment? This can't be. The increased opportunities available to ghettoized lower-class blacks once they live next to young, upper-class, white professionals can only bring us all together.
