ou are a bad person if you send your children to private school. Not bad like murderer badbut bad like ruining-one-of-our-nations-most-essential-institutions-in-order-to-get-whats-best-for-your-kid bad. So, pretty bad. I am not an education policy wonk: Im just judgmental. But it seems to me that if every single parent sent every single child to public school, public schools would improve. This would not happen immediately. It could take generations. Your children and grandchildren might get mediocre educations in the meantime, but it will be worth it, for the eventual common good. (Yes, rich people might cluster. But rich people will always find a way to game the system: That shouldnt be an argument against an all-in approach to public education any more than it is a case against single-payer health care.) So, how would this work exactly? Its simple! Everyone needs to be invested in our public schools in order for them to get better. Not just lip-service investment, or property tax investment, but real flesh-and-blood-offspring investment. Your local school stinks but you dont send your child there? Then its badness is just something you deplore in the abstract. Your local school stinks and you do send your child there? I bet you are going to do everything within your power to make it better.

If the liberals are that pissed off about it, you know it must be good.
“So, how would this work exactly? Its simple! Everyone needs to be invested in our public schools in order for them to get better.”
I have a simpler idea: get rid of the teachers union!
As a single father, I sent all four of my kids thru private school and college. They’re now adults and better off for it.
get rid of the Departments of Education indoctrination at both the federal and state levels.
Let the towns run public schools.
“it seems to me that if every single parent sent every single child to public school, public schools would improve. This would not happen immediately. It could take generations. Your children and grandchildren might get mediocre educations in the meantime, but it will be worth it, for the eventual common good.”
It seems to me a total stranger wanting me to sacrifice opportunities for my generations to come is worth ignoring. Advantage: my offspring.
When leftist elite leaders (Obamas, Kennedys, Pelosis, Bloombergs, Bidens, Emmanuels, Clintons, hollywood stars, etc.) start sending their children and grandchildren exclusively to public schools, including state universities instead of Ivy League institutions, I’ll reconsider my perspective on public schools.
Hypocrites like the Clintons and the Obamas, and actors like Matt Damon, any Demoncrat with money, yeah, they all talk this talk.
But public schools aren’t good enough for their kids. Good enough for our kids, but not theirs, just as armed guards don’t belong in public schools, blah blah blah.
They can KMA.
And if you home-school your child, you should be executed.
Unless of course you happen to be either a Democrat politician or a member of the Teachers Union.
I have a better idea. Send areal message and outlaw the teachers union.
Unless you’re one of the leftist elite of course.
Don’t be a bad comrade!
Enlist your kinder in the people’s skools!
What does “double x” mean?
Then from Obama on down the leftists are bad people since all of them do ....
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
(And per 'control'- if only because the now 'empowered' Left do not - or rather 'care not' - what representative power means. . .
Yes; how IS that public school working out for you - particularly since Obama took school choice vouchers away? (The Gov. and it's Unions, HATE 'school choice'; personal empowerment and most of all 'options' per YOUR choice.) NO options! Get it?
It is not the Socialist - communist - way; save for the rule makers, that is.
If the present situation is that the public school system sucks, who the hell does some Slate columnist think he is, to tell me I have to sacrifice my children's good for the "common good" of someone generations in the future? Screw you, clown.
Maybe her article is so poorly thought out because she went to a bad public school.
