Invoking Israel, Kerry Says Congress will Vote 'Aye'

John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, said on Sunday that the administration had new evidence that sarin gas was used in an attack by Syrian government forces that killed 1,400 people last month. Kerry also said that he is certain that Congress will approve the attack on Syria, and invoked the name of Israel in this context.

“I can’t contemplate that Congress would turn its back on Israel and Jordan and the allies of the region,” Kerry said on “Fox News Sunday,” saying that lawmakers had a duty to act to uphold international norms against using chemical weapons. Kerry stressed that it was important to send a tough message to other nations pursuing weapons programs, like Iran and North Korea.

Kerry, also sent a warning to Assad, saying that if he were “foolish enough” to harm his people again, then US President Barack Obama might take military action without waiting for Congress.

“Of course the president of the United States knows we have the power to do this, and I assume he would move very, very rapidly,” Kerry said.

Kerry said hair and blood samples from first responders who were helping victims in the Damascus neighborhood of Ghota al Sharkiya “have tested positive for signatures of sarin.” He did not say how the administration had obtained the evidence, but expressed confidence that the case against Assad was “going to build.”

to vote NO will make them look like wusses, and will give Obama a propaganda point to use against them, so I expect a strong majority of Republicans to vote in favor.

Not really, most Americans are against it and in spite of our media it is generally known that icing Assad will mean the death of all Syrian Christians. I realize our government has little use for Christians, but many Americans still do.

LOL. Jordan told you to shove it, Lurch. And Bibi has no use for you either.

Did anyone on Fox News Sunday call out Kerry for his anti-Semitic positions on the Middle East peace process???

I don’t think Congress will vote “yes”. Americans do not want this...what was the last poll? 9% support for getting involved in Syria??

The only people supporting this right now are Obama cultists and RINOs like Lindsey Graham and her boyfriend John McIgnorant.

John Fraud Kerry is behaving in a manner reminiscent of Jhinjhis Khan.

Obama has already backed-down, once and for all. Someone forgot to tell Kerry the party is cancelled.

HEY NOW, Lurch is a Vietnam veteran and a patriot, at least before he sided with Ho Chi Min. And Theresa Heinz is a glamorous woman, don't you forget it! Senator Heinz should have had a pre-nup that would kick in upon his death.

Israel doesn't want anything as half-assed as this 'proposal', Lurch

Israel does this kind of payback all the time. After terrorism, they pick out targets to punish and lob missiles at them.

Also, if the the threat is significant, they will do short term invasions and pull out. In America, we are not used to this kind of thinking. In the first gulf war, Bush Senior did pretty much that. They went in, blew up a bunch of things, killed a lot of the enemy and left. Now, after our long term engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan, a lot of people think that would be a better way to go. Less blood and treasure to send a message.

We are NOT going to change these people. There is a good chance that the "rebels" are as bad as Assad, or worse. Remember when Reagan bombed Tripoli? When we were in Lebanon? When it became apparent as to what we were dealing with- we left.

If we’re going to attack another country to scare Iran and North Korea, couldn’t we find a better country than Syria? Let’s attack Detroit! That will scare the crap out of Iran and North Korea! Then, we rebuild Detroit and they start building better cars than.....Detroit.

Exactly! I believe sarin gas was used, but I don’t trust a word that comes out of this administration PERIOD. There is information from other sources that the rebels did it to frame Assad and it would so like our “leaders” to lie in justification for whatever they want to do...

To be fair, Congress probably will vote "Aye".

I can't speak for congress as a whole, but I'm certain my senators Boxer and Feinstein will.

Odd, though, the used to be part of the peace at any price contingent...

"Israel does this kind of payback all the time. After terrorism, they pick out targets to punish and lob missiles at them."

When was the last time Israel lobbed at an urban-based government, or anything but Hezbollah in the hills? I might be wrong, refresh my memory.

Israel does ground work. Reach out and touch someone. The covert Syrian nuke 'intervention' was not missle-led or missle-lobbed.

If you meant they use us/US by proxy for Tomahawk bell-ringing, not this time. They know, as does Asswad, as does the rest of the world, you want him out, you got to go in with boots and get him. This isn't Libya by a longshot.

Why not?

Congress has become little more than a rubber stamp for the Marxist dictator.

But that's the problem. What follows him may be worse than Assad- and our country is tired of long term military incursions into the middle east with no clear goal or endgame. There are so many things that can go wrong here, it is impossible to count.

The House of Saud must be passing out money to our 'public servants' by the trainload... they want Syria to turn into Iran and Syria ... Our blood for Saud security.

None of us should die for people who hate us. Which side hates us? Both... or twenty or fifty or the whole ME... Take your best guess... and add a million and you'll be right.
