(Reuters) - British broadcaster David Frost, a master of the television interview, famed for coaxing an apology for Watergate from Richard Nixon, has died suddenly, his family said on Sunday.

Aged 74, he had a heart attack late on Saturday aboard a luxury cruise liner where he had a speaking engagement. His sudden death brought tributes from international celebrities and political leaders, many of whom called him a good friend as well as an acute interrogator.

"David Frost died of a heart attack last night aboard the Queen Elizabeth, where he was giving a speech," his family said in a statement, adding they were "devastated".

The ship's website indicated the liner left the southern English port of Southampton on Saturday, bound for Lisbon.

A household name in Britain since 1962, when as a recent Cambridge graduate he hosted the cutting edge television satire show "That Was The Week That Was", Frost secured his broader reputation with the Nixon interviews of 1977, three years after the president retreated into silence after quitting in disgrace.

Huh! I never made the connection to That Was The Week That Was. Used to love that show.

The poor kids today, all they have is the Colbert Report...

“famed for coaxing an apology for Watergate from Richard Nixon,”

Not true! I watched the interview in its entirety.

He TRIED to coax President Richard M. Nixon into an apology but President Richard M. Nixon did not take the bait!

President Richard M. Nixon’s response was similar to the following: “Get on the floor and grovel? NO, never!”

TW3 was on NBC here in the States. I seem to remember that Frost was on it. Also Doro Mirandi.

You have to give Frost props for taking on Nixon. I say this having a certain amount of respect for Nixon too.

Nixon undoubtedly hoped an appearance with Frost would boost his image. It still took some chutzpa to go on the show.

I contrast Nixon’s treatment by the press at large, with that of the press’ treatment of Clinton and Obama. The comparisons are startling.

Have either Clinton or Obama taken an opportunity to do an extended interview with someone who wasn’t going to hold back so as not to embarrass them?

With Nixon you had a guy involved in one major problem, that used poor judgement to make things exponentially worse.

In the case of Clinton and Obama, you have literally tens of things they were involved in that made Nixon’s infractions look very pale by comparison. And yet, our history books trash Nixon with a verve generally reserved for child-rapists. Clinton or Obama, nah, they’re treated like the high-school football quarter-back, and the press merely winks at their antics.

Frost wasn’t winking with Nixon. That’s to his credit.

It’s also a good reason why nearly all professional journalists today have no credit/or exuded professionalism whatsoever.

I think that was Dick Cavett.

Frost was a flaming liberal who never would have interviewed a rat with the same gusto he interviewed Nixon.

That’s my take too. Then again, he shouldn’t have treated Nixon any different. If Nixon was going to agree to the interview, everything should have been on the table.

Being honest with myself, if I’m going to advocate for Clinton and Obama to be grilled, then I have to accept that people on my side should be grilled too.

The glaring reality is, that people on the Left are not grilled. They are graced in, and can do just about anything with no repercussions. That’s not just unfair, it’s extremely dangerous.

In the case of Clinton he had a Chinese spy network ensconced at the highest levels of our government. And that wasn’t the half of it. In the case of Obama, we have an Islamic wanna be selling the U. S. out across the board to the fellow travelers of Marx, Arafat, and the most dangerous terrorist groups we are aware of.

The guy is a major factor in the destabilization of the Middle-East and the Northern regions of the African Continent.

His ignorance knows no bounds. And the press favors support of this one _resident, over the welfare of our nation.

Traitors one and all...

Mini-biography......Frost, 74, was born in Kent, England, the son of a Methodist minister.

He was a noted womanizer with an amazing string of affairs and a couple of marriages. His first marriage was with Peter Seller's widow. It lasted a year.

He died worth over 200 million pounds. Maybe someone can convert that amount into dollars for us.

Nixon had the guts to walkinto the Frost rats nest so I'd like to see Clinton or Ubanga interviewed by Mark Levin.

The socialist died on a luxury liner, certain to the end that socialism is a great idea - - for the masses.

If Nixon had been a Democrat Watergate wouldn’t have been news.

The American press overwhelmingly despise all conservative and non-socialist people.

Most members of the press ,having never done any real work, truly believe they have all the answers.
