Des Moines police arrested two people Friday. 18-year-olds James Shorter and Nathaniel Russell. They're looking for a third, 18-year-old Kent Tyler. They've been charged with murdering 40-year-old Richard Daughenbaugh.
The victim was brutally beat by multiple people in this parking lot.
"Almost a mob mentality took over the crowd," Sgt. Jason Halifax said.
He later died in the hospital Sunday night. During the fight, a couple tried to break it up, but instead two girls stole the woman's cell phone and a man beat up the good Samaritan. Leprese Derrian Williams was charged in connection with assaulting him.
Friday was Robert Daughenbaugh's funeral. We spoke to the family today. They said, with all of the questions they this week, now a few are answered.
Police say this is a random attack. There were some members of the Heavy Hitters Gang, a growing problem in Des Moines, there on Sunday.
"There were members of that gang involved in this assault, but it wasn't as though Mr. Daughenbaugh was a target of that gang," Halifax said....

If random attacks are considered just one of those things then random retaliation should be the norm also.
Of course NO one will be safe walking the streets but then again, are ‘WE’ safe now - walking the streets and/or driving certain neighborhoods.
‘they’ are getting so bold the attacks are more open and until they are recognized for what they are worth ‘we’ will have to take things in our own hands..
Granted I don’t hardly listen to ANYTHING the pResident says but he could have used the “MLK” me fest to tell ‘his people’ AND all people that the recent spate in ‘random attacks’ is troubling.
I realize this isn’t the Chief Executive’s Job, BUT he started it with the ‘beer summit’ and ‘If I had a son etc etc etc’.....
They are just fanning the racial flames and it is hard to believe that out and out war is not what they are after.
If for no other reason that take the heat off their everyday stupidity.
This is not a national past-time. It is the new Black hatemongers war against whites using Treyvon Martin as their excuse.

There was a similar attack in Des Moines just a few months ago. An African immigrant was carjacked and then beaten so badly that he is now blind, paralyzed and unable to speak. The cops just arrested two SOB’s for that, also.
Iowa has always had a leftist slant since the time that Tom Harkin, the fake Vietnam veteran got elected to Congress in 1974, and he is as red as they come.
The Des Moines Register has turned into a leftist propaganda sheet to the point that my late acquaintance and Pulitzer Prize winning writer Clark Mollenhoff has spun around so much in his grave that he ended up in Thailand.
Just because Iowa is in the middle of nowhere doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been perverted to the Left. It is just as PC as New York, California, Illinois and Massachusetts.
This story is just one example of that.
My parents moved us to Slater (near Ames) from Southern California when I was 14, then to Kelley (even closer to Ames) where I grew up and graduated from Ballard High School. My sister met her husband while attending ISU. Worked in Des Moines after leaving the service and then moved there when I married.
It will take some gumption for someone on radio or tv to address this.

You have touched on the mechanism of the illegal drug industry which is in full gear in the black culture. This is the alternate world of the Black Market where goods and services are disconnected from the Capitalist system as it was designed to work. Call it a mutant form of Capitalism. It is a system that would operate in the Communist world where the Capitalist mode of operation is suppressed by the totalitarian autocracy.
A hallmark of Communism is the rejection of private property. The opium of Communist is not only other people’s money, but also, other people’s private property. It is the mutant fantasy world they live in. It is this type of culture that turns a blind eye to theft. It is through theft that they operate.
In the case of Trayvon Martin, you have a character involved in the early stages of learning the skill-set necessary to work in the drug industry. He was involved in the process of securing operating capitol through theft. Theft provides a vital role in the illegal drug industry. As in any industry, you need money to buy the product so you can use it, manufacture or sell it. Theft is the most direct method for access to money. It bypasses the banking system which is inaccessible to the small time operator anyway.
Zimmerman represents that obstacle to the securing of operating capitol. He represents the eyes on the ground that are needed to keep neighborhoods clean of illegal activity (prostitution is another method for raising capitol). The drug industry wants the block watch system dismantled or neutralized because it interferes with the enterprise of raising capitol. Corrupt justice systems also want the block watch system dismantled because the illegal drug industry and all of its derivatives benefits them also.
