Barack Obama is proving an embarrassing amateur on the world stage compared to George W. Bush
Telegraph ^ | August 30th, 2013 | Nile Gardiner -- World

President Bush knew how to build a coalition

George W. Bush was widely mocked by the Left during the Iraq War, with liberals jeering at the “coalition of the willing,” which included in its ranks some minnows such as Moldova and Kazkhstan. Michael Moore, in his rather silly documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, went to great lengths to lampoon the Iraq War alliance. But the coalition also contained, as I pointed out in Congressional testimony back in 2007, Great Britain, Australia, Spain, Italy, Poland, and 16 members of the NATO alliance, as well as Japan and South Korea. In Europe, France and Germany were the only large-scale countries that sat the war out, with 12 of the 25 members of the European Union represented. The coalition, swelled to roughly 40 countries, and was one of the largest military coalitions ever assembled.

As it stands, President Obama’s proposed military coalition on Syria has a grand total of two members – the US and France. And the French, as we know from Iraq, simply can’t be relied on, and have very limited military capability. It is a truly embarrassing state of affairs when Paris, at best a fair weather friend, is your only partner. John Kerry tried to put a brave face on it at his press conference today, by referring to France “as our oldest ally,” but the fact remains that his administration is looking painfully isolated.

There can be no doubt that David Cameron’s defeat in the House of Commons was a huge blow to President Obama, and has dominated the US news networks this morning.

It’s a win - win for mac daddy:

Congress yes and it turns into a nightmare it’s their fault.

Congress no and there is another attack it’s their fault.

And there sits mac daddy declaring himself, along with his willing sock puppet, as completely blameless.

In the meantime world leaders are ROTFLTAO.

Bush was mocked by the Dems in the US but not by the leaders of other countries. Obama is mocked by all but a few of his puppets.

You STILL think he’s trying to be a good President, and look out for the interests of the United States?

So, then, I can see why you think he’s incompetent.

In addition, Obama has managed to alienate all three sides in Syria: the Syrian government, the resistance and the Christians.

I would give Germany a pass for sitting out the 2003 invasion. They had an urgent internal security issue to deal with--tracking down parents who might be homeschooling their children.

Back in 2003, Jed Babin had a line that went something like "going to war without the French is like going hunting without an accordion."

Most of the graduates of “Canoe U” are men (and now women) of integrity and intelligence. However, a few slip through, somehow, to embarrass the USNA. This is common also to West Point and the Air Force Academy. A few...maybe that “5%” of those who don’t get it but succeed in later endeavors, that is succeed to be promoted into positions such as “four stripers”. I witnessed an O-6 bungle so often that none of us could believe that he ever was promoted! He later became a Lt. General, USAF. Sort of like how the hell did Obama get elected President??? No Quals, no experience, no nothing!

Probably right since no urgency for Congress. Boehner is saying it will take up the issue in a few weeks. Definitely a Punt and delaying all actions.

the liberal brits can shove it where the sun don’t shine and leave Bush’s name out of it

I remember the Europeans begging in a panic for the “cowboy” Bush admin to stop a nuke war between Pakistan and India over Kashmir attacks - just after 9-11

who they gonna call next time?

Article Title:

“Barack Obama is proving an embarrassing amateur on the world stage compared to George W. Bush”

The title is factually incorrect.

Obama proved he was non-leader material BEFORE he was voted in as President.

William Henry Harrison was a better President than 0bama. Hell Harrison probably did the least damage of any President. 0bama probably thinks Harrison would support 0bamacare.

The coalition, swelled to roughly 40 countries, and was one of the largest military coalitions ever assembled.

My memory was that it was more than that. My memory was right. (for once)

Who’s who in the Coalition of the Willing

A White House statement of 21 March 2003 informed the world that:

“President Bush is assembling a Coalition that has already begun military operations to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction, and enforce 17 UNSC resolutions.”

and that already 48 countries, all of whom “understand the threat Saddam Hussein’s weapons pose to the world”, were “publicly committed to the Coalition”, including:

Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Palau, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, Singapore, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan
On 3 April 2003, the number of Coalition members rose to 49 with the addition of Tonga, and that’s where it stands at the time of writing.
