After eight largely Chappelle-free years, you’d think comedy fans would be eager to hear what the guy had to say in his new standup routine. By EW’s own account, spectators in Austin certainly were: When Dave Chappelle first took the stage at Funny or Die’s Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, those present gave the comic a standing ovation before he even began his set.
Alas, that was Texas —and this is Connecticut. Last night in Hartford, a noisy, unruly crowd prompted Chappelle to pause his set, ultimately walking off stage to a chorus of boos.

Don’t see why people think that a stand-up comedy show is some sort of 2-way dialogue. They make their bucks by doing their routine only, and when idiots are shouting, or trying to be part of the act, they throw off the performer, who actually structures their set from start to finish. They lose focus, and the whole thing comes off looking bad, giving them a bad reputation of not being able to preform. If you look like you cant keep control and put butts in seats, you don’t get hired no matter how famous you are.

I watched the video. You are correct. They wanted to be in the show. I don't blame him.

He did his contractual 25 minutes albeit not his comedy routine by filling up the time
with chat, smoking a cigarette, etc. after which he departed.
The video omits what led up to his commentary.
Thus, it is impossible to say whether it was the audience or the comedian who was at fault.
My daughter was at the show in Hartford. She and I both agree that Chapelle is a very funny man but he has had some emotional/mental problems. She said the crowd was noisy but not, at first otherwise rude. Chapelle needs to get a tougher shell and I wish him well.
I know nothing about his politics nor do I think that’s all that important in this context.

Dave must have been saying the truf about Bruthas and Liberals.
I did stand-up for many years (semi-retired now due to health)and the way to deal with any heckler is:
1st time: ignore them
2nd time: politely remind them that the audience is there to see the performers, not them.
3rd time: Destroy them. (Not hard to do since they are already idiots)
Go home audience. You are drunk!
