Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed US claims that Syria's regime used chemical weapons, describing them as "utter nonsense".

Mr Putin challenged Washington to present the evidence behind its claims to the United Nations Security Council.

But speaking to journalists in the Russian far-eastern city of Vladivostok, Mr Putin urged Mr Obama - as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate - to think about future victims in Syria before using force.

He said it was ridiculous to suggest the Syrian government was to blame for the 21 August attack.

“Syrian government troops are on the offensive and have surrounded the opposition in several regions,” he said.

“In these conditions, to give a trump card to those who are calling for a military intervention is utter nonsense.”

Russia - a key ally of Syria - has previously warned that “any unilateral military action bypassing the UN Security Council” would be a “direct violation of international law”.

Moscow, along with China, has vetoed two previous draft resolutions on Syria.

Mr Putin also expressed surprise at a vote in the British parliament on Thursday ruling out participation in military action.

“I will be honest: this was completely unexpected for me,” he said.

“This shows that in Great Britain, even if it is the USA’s main geopolitical ally in the world... there are people who are guided by national interests and common sense, and value their sovereignty.”

During Bush admin, we get non-stop coverage from media that Bush need congress approval, now we don’t with Obama. So which is it?

I feel creepy agreeing with ole Vlad here, but he does make perfect sense.

Putin always makes more sense than Obama. Of course, Putin is much smarter than Obama.

Comrade,

The rules do not apply to Dear Leader Obama and the Party. The rules only apply to the soon to be declared illegal opposition party, and you mere peasants.

Dear Leader knows what's best for you and your countrymen so take your position back in the breadline and behave yourself before you find yourself in a work camp with your family.

Love,
The Minister of Propaganda

Putin made perfect sense the other day when he said (and I quote) "The West is acting like a monkey playing with a hand grenade."

Imagine, the Communist leader of Russia calls the sitting President of the United States of America a "monkey" and there isn't a single hoot or howl from the American or Russin media that Putin's a RACIST!

Have to say, I laughed myself to tears the other day when I'd read Putin said this, screw Herr Obama getting his poor wittle feewings hurt! He deserved it!

Now when Putin starts making sense, you just know you're own country is f'ed up.

"The West is acting like a monkey playing with a hand grenade."

This calls for a three year (temporary change) in the presidential seal...

Putin has to be pretty confident of his intelligence

after all, his advisors are there with the Syrian regime and were probably involved in the transfer of those CW weapons to Syria in the first place

But more about that later

What you are witnessing is an outgrowth of a worldview that asserts there are no “absolutes”, a perverted view of morals/ethics.

When you take God (or any transcendent authority, I suppose) out of your thinking, then “absolute” right and wrong become dependent only on what you are most comfortable with at any given time....so being CONSISTENT in application of rules is not necessarily important.

Assad was clearly defeating the rebels. The rebels had to get the U.S. help to survive. Who had the motive to launch a chemical attack or attempt to and botch it, killing more people than planned?

“Syrian government troops are on the offensive and have surrounded the opposition in several regions,” he said.

“In these conditions, to give a trump card to those who are calling for a military intervention is utter nonsense.”

“So I’m convinced that is nothing more than a provocation by those who want to drag other countries into the Syrian conflict.”

Russia’s Vladimir Putin challenges US on Syria claims

He said that the US failure to present evidence to the international community was “simply disrespectful”.

“If there is evidence it should be shown. If it is not shown, then there isn’t any,” he said.

And that’s why he’s MY President!

IIRC Putin didn't use the Monkey quote, one of his ministers did.

Too mush slobbering over Putin on the board lately.

A commie is a commie.

No, I'd read it as a Putin quote. Not "slobbering" over Putin, just saying he nailed it with the "monkey" quote and that you know America's f'ed up when Putin/Russia sounds like the voice of reason.

BTW: Given Great Britain's and NATO's reaction the last two days, Putin's exactly right. Now, that could simply be the broken clock effect (being right twice a day) for all I know, or the fact that Obama is really playing into al-qaeda's hands.

What a very strange feeling to have more trust and faith in Putin than I have in Obama and John Kerry.

Why are we going to sacrifice American lives to kill Syrians, Obama??

This seems to be an easy question to answer. To end THEIR civil war? (And get your guy into power) Isn’t that the one thing he has said about this.

He really does have an evil “god” complex. He is going to sacrifice “HIS” military, who are disposable, to get his guy into power, so he can rule the world and own all of the oil and go golfing and vacay all of the time.

This is why it was important to make sure that our President is a US citizen with some US sympathies. This could could not care less about Americans or our country.

He is so aloof that I think he has an emotional detachment disorder. Does he really think this is a game of Risk?
