Honk
Mickey D’s should close up in Detroit anyway. That city is a lost cause.
Economics 101.
I paid $12 for lunch at a McDonalds last weekend. I can get a better meal in a subshop for $7!
As I pondered the possible mid- to long-term fallout from this sort of thing, a thought suddenly hit me like a brick:
Time to buy gold.
I have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is we raised your pay to $15/hour.
The bad news is we have to let you go.
A McDonalds on 8 Mile Road in Detroit?
Oh, the rich, rich irony.
Well, if SEIU can organize the fast food workers (and collect hefty dues) a strike by one group would be a strike by all. Would Mickey D cave or just become an international corporation because business in the US had become too expensive and unprofitable? I wonder.
Or would the government come in and say they had to serve fast food in the ‘hood, even if it was unprofitable? Don’t laugh—remember the Christian photographer who the government said had take pictures at gay weddings? He was treated like a public utility, a state slave, who had to perform on demand.
This morning, one of my Madison WI co-workers suggested that it won’t be easy to get fast food today.
I responded that it won’t be a problem, not around here. He responded, “We’ll see.”
At lunch, I plan to go to the Culver’s in Middleton, WI. I expect business as usual.
For those in Southfield, MI, I recommend Fishbone’s Rhythm Kitchen. A little more expensive, but great food. I doubt their employees get appreciably more than the fast food joints (except waitresses who receive good tips).
Has anyone else around here scouted the local fast food joints to see if there is any appreciable effect?
I’d love to see all folks get more wages...but I’m afraid the laws of economics (none of which are understandable to progressives) always prevail.
Exactly. Couple this stupidity with Obozo's war against the rich, and you can see why the economy is in so much trouble. The real solution to low income is economic growth. Even if your slice of the pie is fixed and you can't take it away from the rich, double the size of the pie and your income doubles. Why can't a liberal see that a rising tide lifts all boats? I don't know about you, but in 46 years of working, I never had one poor person hire me.
I am not denigrating fast food jobs, but don’t they realize there are people in some more skilled jobs that don’t make $15?
Yeah, getting $7.75 to say, “You want fries with that?” Seriously? They are already overpaid.
You may be priceless as a human being, but your work is NOT worth $15 per hour if all you can get is minimum wage. Minimum wage means that your labor isn’t even worth THAT much, if the government has to force another party to pay it. This is where Mitt Romney lost the election in the 2nd debate. He could have told that college student that a job is not “given”, but earned.
I just called, they answered the phone said they are open and she said that they never closed.
The title looked fishy to me.

Went to my local McDonalds this morning for breakfast and there was not a problem. Business as usual.
Just fire all the employees and hire new ones. Open up again in a few days.
I have been cured of any craving for McDonalds food after this article (and so have my teenagers)
In fact the thought of eating at McDonalds now induces mild nausea

***We are worth more. Strike for 15, as in $15 an hour...***
There was a time when .45 cents an hour was enough. But then a burger only cost .20 cents or five for a dollar.
Then they wanted more...
these under appreciated Food Preparation Specialists were simply trying to do their part to help Re-Fund Detroit......./s
