The Obama administration continues to discount the huge impact its health overhaul law is having in turning America into a part-time nation, calling reports anecdotal and not based on complete data.
To paraphrase Groucho Marx: Who are you going to believe? Me, or your own eyes?
An avalanche of anecdotes continues to pile up as workers across the country are having their hours cut and their health benefits slashed across a broad range of industries.
Loren Goodridge, the owner of 21 Subway franchises, says he has no choice but to cut the hours of his employees to 29 a week to avoid the laws penalties.
The negative effects of the law reach the education industry as well. St. Petersburg College, a public university in Florida, is reducing the hours of 250 faculty members because the college says it cannot afford to provide them with health insurance.
Joseph Hansen, the president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union that originally supported the law, says the health law will have a tremendous impact as workers have their hours reduced and their incomes reduced.
Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that the ratio of part-time to full-time jobs has completely flipped this year from historical trends. Last year, six full-time jobs were created for every one part time job. This year, only one full-time job is being created for every four new part-time jobs....

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
What a great marxist Ponzi scheme!
Those who never wanted it to get to pay a penalty to not have health insurance, and those who have no income are covered but pay nothing!
But wait, there’s more: The government has even more imaginary money to spend on the massive bureaucratic infrastructure necessary to run the `Affordable Care’ Frankenstein monster, and the working class get to take even more swift kicks to the `nads.
It’s like April 15, but all year `round!
The Democrats have convinced themselves that Obamacare is going to be OK after the bugs are shaken out.
Social Security is OK now, right?
Medicare is OK now, right?
Medicaid is OK now, right?
The Democrats are invoking the ghost of F. D. R. but they are just whistling past the graveyard.
that was the plan. our standard of living being brought down, to match more of lower middle class europe and lower.
Socialists, Communists, and their Fascist friends understand the barrel of a gun and the jail cell, but they do not understand human nature.
A great tragedy for many good working people. Sux
Yep, the shift to part time is rotten. But boehnercare is still coming, and it’ll be right on schedule. Both the gop and ‘rat wings of the uniparty are positively salivating over it.
Medicare is really not OK
I was stunned when I read this because I am on Medicare.
I was a member of a UFCW local when Obamacare was being debated. The went whole hog saying how it would save us money, we would keep our current insurance, etc. Guess what, they are dropping all their “bothers and sisters” onto the Exchanges. Hahahahahah.
I am happily self employed and paying about $800 per month for my families major medical health insurance. Just found an Obamacare calculator online and if its right I will have to buy a $1500 per month policy but I would get a $700 per month subsidy so I will end up paying about what I pay now if I buy thru the exchange. The $700 subsidy far exceeds what I pay in federal taxes. So in summary, I was happy and self sufficient and a net contributer to federal revenues. After the government fixed health care over my objection, I now will be a moocher, a net drainer from from the federal teat - unless I choose to pay the additional $700 per month out of pocket. Quite a choice.
My health insurance just went up. Thank you Zero.
They were supposed to go down. Not up.
Obama probably meant that only his health insurance will be lower when Obamacare is the law instead of everyone else’s rates.
It’ll be interesting to hear the useful idiots next year once they get what they think they want.
And sorry to say that pointing out how this is taking money that could be used for hiring isn’t going to click with many people. Most of the supporters I’ve talked to about this bill seem to think that businesses have some kind of voodoo power to just make money out of thin air.
I think the accurate way to see this....is that most Americans are fairly naive and have no grasp of the business community around them. If they drove down to the local fast-food district and suddenly noticed half of the operations shut-down, they’d ask questions. But I seriously doubt that they’d understand the answers over how a business fails.
It’s also the same with the banking industry, the credit card industry, and even the electrical company industry. If you ask folks how the majority of their power is created....the vast majority would just give you a funny look.
“that was the plan. our standard of living being brought down, to match more of lower middle class europe and lower.”
Even lower middle class Europe gets a month vacation; our standard of living is falling to meet that of Red Chinese serfs.
