March on Washington paved way for gay rights too (o rly?)

When Dr. King began “I Have a Dream,” I was struck as if by lightning. It was akin to hearing Moses speak to the heavens. His speech was a defining moment for those assembled and for Americans watching television in living rooms across the nation. The March led to a Civil Rights Act of 1964 and a Voting Rights Act of 1965.

In the late 1980s, I came out as a gay man and became increasingly involved in LGBT civil rights. I met Barbara Gittings and Frank Kameny, the mother and father of the LGBT civil rights movement. …

Gay pioneer Jack Nichols stated, “We had marched with Martin Luther King, seven of us from the Mattachine Society of Washington in 1963, and from that time on, we’d always had our dream about a (gay) march of similar proportions.” …

Led by Republicans and filibustered by democrats.

Suuuureee.

I listen to the civil rights wack-off’s today say that if MLK was still alive today, he’d be the strongest Gay Rights activist there is.

Sadly - they may be right. King was a weak man in many personal areas.

In the article, the author almost reveals that his participation had nothing to do with Black people, and EVERYTHING to do with using the momentum and precedents in order to campaign for a homosexual hijacking of Dr. King’s sincere efforts to end a real problem in America.

Homosexuals are well represented in the arts, and many are in high paying jobs in business, education, and technical fields.

To compare the fact that some folks JUST DON’T APPROVE of their lifestyle to Jim Crow Laws, Segregation, and Oppression because of Skin Color is an INSULT to those of us (including myself) who marched with Dr. King back in the 60’s.

I REALLY wish Black People would speak up about this, but I guess it is a different society we live in today. (sigh)

“...had nothing to do with Black people, and EVERYTHING to do with using the momentum...”

Kinda like those little sucker fish that cling to a shark.

If I were black, I would really resent that analogy.

Hey....just read on an ABC blog that the turnout crowd was only about 18,000 people at the Mall in DC today!!! Could that possibly be true???

I have the same question. I live on Capitol Hill. Big events on the Mall use the RFK Stadium parking lots for busses. A big crowd will produce a steady and heavy flow of people down the main streets heading towards the Capitol and the Mall. Today, nothing. I work near Union Station. Nothing. I checked CNN. It showed no panoramic shots at all, and only a few eyelevel crowd shots, which did not suggest a big crowd. Curious.
