Administering a palliative substance is a far cry from “healing.”

Gupta told CNN's Erin Burnett that he used to look at medical marijuana advocates as "malingerers" who are "just looking to get high." But he came to see that cannabis not only helps severely ill people but also averts the dangerous side effects of more potent pharmaceuticals.

Do those two views have to be mutually exclusive?

SO, whatever is in marijuana can’t be isolated and turned into a pill with the same properties? Very unlikely that it can’t.

But that’s not what the pothead lobby wants. They want to smoke it, not actually do research on what could REALLY be helpful.

On one hand they want to ban tobacco products and on the other they want to legalizing smoking marijuana.......go figure.

As a side note, marijuana is about 10 times more harmful on the lungs than cigarettes since it's unfiltered........

Why is Washington still waging a war on weed?

1) Nobody likes to admit they were wrong... Governments least of all.

2) It's all about power and control. Legalize weed, and the powers-that-be give away their most useful tool in exercising total control over the general populace. By criminalizing an otherwise harmless act, the Government by its decree instantly makes millions of Americans "criminals." Now that's power. That's control.

3) What in the world would they do with all that free court time and prison space?

4) Where would they find another so convenient an excuse to turn thousands of rapists, muggers, murderers and pedophiles loose on the public if not the overcrowding of our prisons created by this amoral set of Drug Laws?

Power, control, and the refusal to admit their error.

The Jackboots suck huge mung.

utter BS.

Gupta knows better. The “medical” elements of pot have been in pill form for decades. this medicinal pot epiphany is nothing more that ratings whoremongering for himself. Whatever benefits of unprocessed are far outdone by the toxins of the smoking.

(translation for pot heads: dave’s not here maaaaaaan.)

No matter how one views marijuana, there is simply no reason for federal authorities to continue to arrest, prosecute, and imprison over it: states should have supreme authority over it, except in bona fide interstate commerce (not the New Deal-era SCOTUS mutation).

10th Amendment: learn it, live it, love it. Period.

Israelis use it to treat Parkinson's disease and other ailments.

That sort of confirms a question I've had.

My doctor suffers from Parkinson’s, trembling hands and all that.

However, his symptoms disappeared soon after pot was legalized here in CO.

In fact, when I saw him a couple of months ago he looked so healthy that when he asked me how I felt, I responded with "I feel OK, but you look great, I need whatever it is you're taking!".

He actually got an embarrassed look, mumbled something like 'I'm not sure you do' and moved on.

Makes me chuckle, as he seems to be as conservative as I am, and I've never 'partaken'.

I'm sure happy for him though, he looked terrible before.

>>So why is Washington still waging a war on weed?<<

It is needed to keep the needlessly high numbers of judicial officials employed with taxpayer funds. It is needed to keep penal institutions operating at full capacity and it is a good control measure on the population at large.

Dr. Gupta is disingenuous and misleading.

The risks of “smoking” marijuana far outweigh the benefits and may lead to disease. In fact, in some occasions, it may be worse than cocaine.

Now, if you infuse Olive oil or other cooking oil with it, and administer it as an oil, you, then, have a powerful healing medicine without the negative effects. This can be manufactured and distributed, rather easily, but cannot be patented, per say. However, the process of “infusion” can.

Everyone I know from family and friends are messed up or gone from their use of Marijuana. It is the first step for many, and not condoning will only open the door to more widespread use, thus more social problems and feminizing of men, as it raises estrogen and decreases progesterone and testosterone. Come to think of it, maybe that is what they are truly after?

Pray for America!

Sorry, but medical marijuana is a crock. Everyone who lives in a state that passed medical marijuana knows it. Druggies get medical marijuana cards for made up illnesses just so they can get pot without getting in trouble. That was the only reason for the potheads pushing this. The “medical” red herring was pushed because they tried for years to get pot legalized and failed. But then they had the bright idea of calling it medicine which duped plenty of people in voting for it.
