Syria crisis: UK draws up contingency military plans

The UK is drawing up contingency plans for military action in response to the chemical weapons attack in Syria, Downing Street has said.

David Cameron will also consider a recall of Parliament when he returns to No 10 later on Tuesday.

MPs from all parties have demanded they be consulted before any move to support military action is taken.

The suspected chemical attack took place on Wednesday near Damascus, and reportedly killed more than 300 people.

Syrian rebels say the Assad government was responsible, but it blames rebel forces - saying footage of the attack was "fabricated".

Mr Cameron is to chair a meeting of the National Security Council - attended by military and intelligence chiefs and senior ministers - on Wednesday to discuss potential responses.

I don’t believe the Syrian government are the ones responsible. But, if the West uses this as an excuse to attack, then I think it is only fair that the Syrian government counter this attack by using all the chemical weapons at its disposal to attack the rebels.

Americans will die by the thousands because unlike obama... Assad will use whatever he has and he will start WW III. al qaeda and the mb will start the Caliphate... WW III will be here before you know it. I do not support obama or the US Government getting into a war for the benefit of any more islamic demons. I only support the killing of our enemies... not aiding and abetting them.

Assad never wanted the job.

There he was a Syrian Opthamologist with his private practice in London, leading a quiet life, away from his daddy's cruel state.

All he wanted to do was lead a peaceful, quiet life as a Doctor in London.

Then, his elder (heir to the throne) brother, Maher died in an automobile accident. Are there accidents in Syria?

In any event, after daddy died, the old “gang” of his daddy's regime called him in to take over. He refused at first telling them that he was unfit to govern, just let him keep his practice abroad and that is all he wanted in life.

He had no choice as Mustafa Tlass, Defense Minister and the Syrian, Alawite Elite told him to pack his bags and head for the Palace.

Again, he was depressed, he knew the Syrian rabble are uncontrollable, he wanted none of it but in the Islamic, Arabic world, which is like the Sicilian Mafia, when “family” call, you go.

At first the West fell in love with him, especially Shrilliary Clintoon. He even tried to ban smoking in public places for health concerns for his beloved people. For this type of ‘modernizing behavior, Shrilliary called him the “Great Reformer”.

That was in 2008-9.

Now look at him, all disheveled, sweating, murdering on a massive scale. Poor Bashir, he never wanted this responsibility but once he got it, he followed in his daddy's footsteps, to the letter.

Oh if only he could go back to the clinic in London, poor bastard...it's not HIS fault but the Syrian Old Guard...

David Cameron will also consider a recall of Parliament

At least he is recalling Parliament to seek what he needs from them. The guy we have will just do it with no consent and the media will give him a pass. Some of us will try to raise hell and our elected officials will blow smoke up our butts about how “outraged” they are and that they will “do something” about it. When in reality they will do nothing.

Britain has a base in Cyprus. An aircraft carrier won’t be neccesary.

Parliament has been recalled - and apparently Cameron’s advisors have informed him there is not enough support for a strike against Syria - not unless something else happens.

If you ask nicely, we might let the US use it.
