Christians in Egypt are under the worst persecution by Islamic radicals in recent memory, Syrian believers are displaced in massive numbers and the effort to assist them in both countries goes on despite tremendous upheaval in both nations.
Most of the recent attention has been focused on Egypt. Christians have been in the Muslim Brotherhoods cross-hairs since the 2011 Arab Spring, but the persecution has greatly intensified in the weeks following the July 3 coup that removed Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood from power. The violence is a result of radical leaders blaming the coup on Christians. Its a palpably false claim, but it carries great resonance with those loyal to Morsi.

And we have many Evangelical friends here.
Haven't had much time to think of a suitable new label. Plenty of snarky ones pop up in my mischievous brain, but no need to add to the total amount of snark in the Universe.
How about "the More Bumptious Brethren"? I don't think anyone takes serious offense at "bumptious". Hmm. The MBB's.
Well, I suppose that is a valid point. People who claim practicing Orthodox and Catholics "ain't Christians" are a very small but unfortunately very vocal minority of evangelicals. It's unfair to paint of all of them like that, just as its ridiculous to compare all Baptists to the lunatics at Westboro Baptist Church, or all Catholics to Obama's pal, "Father" Pfleger of St. Sabina's.
Nevertheless, I think its disgusting that some American Christians would reject one of the ancient forms of Christianity as "Christian", simply because they're not "born again" protestant fundamentalists. Truly an example of people eating their own.
Yet there are those Catholics and Orthodox Christians who do know the Bible.
Simply passing along the buck.

[by “anti-government activists” is meant church-burning jihadists]
