DETROIT (WWJ) A local photographer is crying foul over an image that appears on a new set of public safety vehicles unveiled by the city.
Mayor Dave Bing handed over the keys to 15 new squad cars and 10 ambulances during a presentation downtown on Thursday.
Meantime, Bobby Alcott claims that a photo of the Detroit skyline featured on the vehicles is his under copyright and that the Downtown Detroit Partnership did not purchase the image.
Im not trying to be mean about it. Im not trying to be a jerk, Bobby Alcott told WWJ Newsradio 950. Im just saying its my property.

that’s one expensive Dodge Charger HEMI. Still expensive including the RoboCOP.

Most anything can look good in a photo. My memories of De-Troit layovers as an airline pilot were having a good book and staying in my room ‘til the next morning. And a lot of “Really, we’re not a crap-hole” PR outside. See the pix in post #13.

I flew into Detroit last week on the way to Dubai. They should have used the aerial view that I saw. It was a patchwork wasteland of demolished blocks by the mile surrounding the “Oz “ that is the city center.

Those cop cars look more like taxis with that graphic. Just wonderin’ how long before those buildings get ‘tagged’ by the local youts?

A fully equipped police car is running around $160,000 these days. Ambulances are probably twice that.
This story doesn’t mention it but I read somewhere that other equipment was purchased as well as hiring a few more cops.

How hard can it be to take your own picture of the Detroit skyline? Heck, with today’s digital cameras, any moron can make a perfect picture. Why would they need to use this guys image?

Comrade, these are reactionary thoughts! In worker’s paradise of Detroit, everything belongs to the People! I am afraid that you will need re-education...

Oh, good.
With that attitude, the guv’mint can force you to pay a fee for taking any pictures of any city. Hell, why not just force building owners to pay a fee to the city for the luxury of contributing to the skyline of the city.
No. Wait. They do.
Property taxes.
You don't own JACK!
If not for someone else, you wouldn't have what you have.
Guv’mint claims they allowed you to be what you are.
Most of us give credit the God.

Say what you will about Detroit but it really does have a
photogenic skyline which ranks with NY and Chicago as
far asaesthetic appeal is concerned.
You can keep Detroit.
The AIDS/HIV virus is also quite beautiful to behold as an organism if viewed under the proper light.
I wouldn't want that either.

I think it's a dumb graphic to use on a police car. I prefer simple colors and an accurate label. It's called "bling". Besides, they had to spend that money; couldn't leave it just lying around.

Downtown looks pretty decent up close too. These businesses are pouring a lot of money into the city these days as the business environment gets better.

I was trying to be absurd. If the subject of a photograph or a painting could be copyrighted, then paparazzi would have to pay celebrities royalties for all the photographs they take.
