Singer Linda Ronstadt announced that she has Parkinsons disease and can no longer sing, leaving the music world without one of its signature voices.
The 67-year-old singer madetheannouncementin an interview with AARP, confirming that she was diagnosed eight months ago, although shehadbeen showing signs of the disease as far back as eight years ago. In the interview, Ronstadt said that she could feel that something was wrong with her voice andatfirst thought it was because of a tick bite she had. She believed the shaking in her hands were caused by shoulder surgery.
I couldnt sing, she told AARP, and I couldnt figure out why.
She continued, I knew it was mechanical. I knew it had to do with the muscles, but I thought it might havealso had something to do with the tick disease that I had. And it didnt occur to me to go to a neurologist. I think Ive had it for seven or eight years already, because of the symptoms that Ive had. Then I had a shoulder operation, so I thought thats why my hands were trembling.

She certainly left a positive mark on American popular music....IIRC, she was the first pop/rock artist in the late 70s, early 80s to take a big risk by putting out an album that was a completely different genre. She teamed up with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and sang old standards from the 30s.....
Whats new..........
Horrible politics, but a voice that was simply amazing in any genre she chose. I hate to hear this.
Parkinson’s is insidious in that it can have impacts like this well before you have a diagnosis. Took 20+ years of problems for me before final diagnosis. Sorry for her loss as a singer.
As an aside, a country singer was on The Voice this year trying to make a comeback after a similar issue from MS.
Gee, that’s too bad.
I am going to pray for LInda.
Maybe it had to do with the songs she was singing:

If she wasn’t such a vocal far left whackadoo I might care more. Yeah, she was hot. Yeah, she could sing. She should have stopped there.
Wonder if her life would have been different if she married Jerry Brown and had a more conventional lifestyle. Alternative lifestyles that succumb to the allure of the low life, may give temporary pleasure, but long term things don’t usually turn out too well. Many end up old ,destitute and alone. The story is only important because her fate is the destiny of a near majority of Americans who embrace the epicurean lifestyle.
Adieu False Heart was Americana music and was a collaboration with another singer. I also have this CD “Canciones de Mi Padre” which came out at the end of 1987 and immediately became a global success. It is the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history (2 1/2 million units sold in the US).

I’M not certain, but I think she was a major influence for the book “Shut Up and Sing”
: / Easily my favorite female vocalist, of my generation. Heck, when I really think on it, she is right up there nudging my all time favorite, Patsy Cline :|
What a loss.
My prayers are with her in this difficult time.
Tatt
And now both? Sad. A voice like liquid gold silenced.
I saw her in the early 80s. I was never the same after she sang Desperado. Just Wow!
Really used to love her voice .. .wasn’t aware of her politics. At 67, though, was she really going to sing like she used to anyway. Not sure ...sad, however, for anyone who is diagnosed with Parkinsons ...
Thanks for the link, it’s a beautiful song, and a wonderful voice.
It’s one that I had never heard before. Thanks again.
My late mother, who was a classically trained opera singer and in her younger years sang in a few local big bands in the 40’s loved Linda Ronstadt’s voice.
