The timing was probably not a coincidence, falling as it did on two anniversaries. August 18, 2011, was when President Obama first demanded Syrian president Bashar al-Assad step aside, and August 20 last year was when Obama warned that the use of chemical weapons would change my calculus. It was a year to the day after Obamas warning that Assad launched what is to date the regimes largest chemical weapons attack. At least a thousand people are dead, likely more, in several Damascus suburbs and outlying towns. The video reports from Syria are chillingchildren foaming at the mouth, their unblinking eyes full of terror, their contorted limbs frozen like broken dolls.

Can’t tell the players without a program...
Don’t believe either side.
Does anyone outside of the Beltway and NY City believe anything written in the Standard?
A pox on all of the so called political experts on both sides who live in or around the Beltway or in NY City.
Don't tease us, tell us what you called them.
I’d be banned from FR if I did...
Rebels, eh? It's hard to keep up with the terminology de joure. You got your activists and then you got your insurgents.
Anything but murdering jihadist maniacs, I guess.
When the POTUS words become cheap........the world becomes a dangerous place.
If our media was around back in 1939, they would have said Germany attacked Poland in self-defense.
Rebels been rebels since I don’t know when.
Nowadays the term certainly wouldn't have the word "Republican" in it.
What proof do you have to back up that statement?
Look, I frankly don't know who used those chemical weapons. All I know is, it's clear chemical weapons were in fact used.
Whether one backs Assad or the so-called "rebels" (read that" al-qaeda and al-qaeda backed groups) to me is irrelevant. America has no national interest in what's going on in Syria, period.
Israel is more than capable of handling whatever spills over into their borders, so I'm not worried about them.
Much as it pains me to have seen video of small children dead, and those who remain(ed) alive up to a few days ago wretching and foaming at the mouth, the reality is Syria's civil war is none of our business.
Period.
The only reason it may be any of our business at all is because Obama in perpetual dumb-ass mode made a bunch of statements he couldn't back up and proved to the rest of the world what we already knew: he's a weak, ineffectual liberal/socialist/marxist/fascist jackwagon who happens to be sitting in the White House.
One day that will end. Then we can begin rebuilding America's rightful position in the world and then ... only then .... will crap like what's going on in Syria stop.
The world's petulant turd-world dictators only seem to act up when they perceive America as being weak. Assad is nothing more than a petulant turd-world dictator.
I think either Assad or the muslim brotherhood were more than capable of pulling off that attack.
Assuming you're correct - what does that mean America's "role" in Syria is? What is our national interest in Syria? Fact is, neither party is a "friend" to the United States.
when did the USA become a dictatorship ?
I always thought a president would be impeached and removed from office for actions like Libya and now Syria,
I am not convinced Assad fired any chemical weapons. The rebels themselves could have done it, or staged it in order to garner sympathy.
Look, Saddam Hussein DID kill the Kurds with chemical weapons. He did it, was proud of it, and the liberals WINKED and nodded...so I don’t buy the notion that the Clown is itching to stop some Islamofascist kook in Syria.
that is awesome.
spell it but leave out the vowels.
If there was such an attack, I don’t care who did it. The only message we should be sending those 6th century savages in the middle east is “screw with us again and we use our nukes”. Once a couple of their crap hole cities go up in balls of nuclear fire they’ll calm down for another few centuries.
We’re talking about a person (Obama) whose primary job was to do two things: bribe and intimidate.
That description is for a: COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
If you check out what community organizers do, you find that they don’t “govern” .. they organize marches on employers .. make demands (some demands so outrageous it puts the company [or country] out of business). Now, that’s really smart isn’t it .. while they’re busy intimidating the company, they don’t seem to realize they are destroying the livlihood for the majority of the people they’re organizing to march against the company. Hmmmm ..?? Isn’t that what we see in America today. The company [country] is in a sad state .. and all it’s citizens are out of work.
I worked for an electronics company in Silicon Valley. I was priviledged to know some of the people who started these companies. The unions tried and tried to get into the original companies, but they couldn’t. The people who owned Silicon Valley companies at that time were determined to keep the unions out. They succeeded for many years. And, Silicon Valley went wild.
Now, Silicon Valley is the mecca for the UNIONS. Funny thing, Silicon Valley has not thrived the way it could have mainly because it costs so much to keep the unions happy that you cannot expand your business .. and so they do nothing.
I’m glad I don’t live and work there anymore.
The unions have destroyed California; I hope they’re happy with their legacy .. over 4 million people have left the state.
It was a two part word.
The second part was “-heads.”
Assad is not stupid enough to commit national suicide to kill a few hundred people. This is a false flag. It’s appearance is the same as the mushroom cloud over Iraq. Assad’s enemies want us to die for their cause. It’s just the sucking sound to bring us in. Obama’s red line was just an excuse to get involved. The country is in for another Bush war. God help us.
Not Herr Obama!! But you already knew that...
