New York is number one again, but this time its for being the rudest and most arrogant state in the country.
A new survey from Business Insider asked 1,600 Americans to answer questions about states they dont live in, like which were the drunkest, the smartest or had the silliest accents.
The results were hilarious, informative and tell you everything you need to know about the dynamic between the states, Business Insider said on its website.
It found that 39 percent of those polled felt New York was the most arrogant state and 44 percent felt it was the rudest.
Georgia and Minnesota tied for nicest. Louisiana was judged as the drunkest state and Massachusetts took first place for weirdest accents, followed close behind by Louisiana, Alabama, Minnesota, New York and New Jersey.
Americans think New York has the second-smartest people after Massachusetts.
The poll found California was Americas favorite state and Texas was the one most would like to see kicked out of the country.

Yep, SD is most forgotten.
I always thought the pronunciation was “lawn guyland”.
You get the ‘best’ of both worlds (NY and Assachusetts) here in Red Hampshire...the conservatives are leaving/have left; the older natives are dying off...my ‘hood is full of foul mouth, arrogant NY’ers who have NO RESPECT for personal and private property.
“Nicest people I found (at least on the phone) were in Houston and, believe it or not, Southern California.”
From the Seinfeld episode when the go to Los Angeles
Jerrys on a pay phone talking to the police
Jerry: ...Can I come right now? I suppose, where are you located? Where is that? I don’t know where we are. Where are we?
George: I don’t know.
Jerry: We don’t know. He says ask somebody, ask that guy.
George: Excuse me, where are we?
Man: Earth.
Thirty or forty years ago, that was true. But gentrification has filled NY up with wimps and nice guys.
Chicago, on the other-hand, was a h@LL-hole of rudeness, gun fire going off everywhere and uncaring jerks at every turn. I would like to know what the agenda is of the people putting these labels on cities...and I suggest they get out more...maybe to France.
I’ve pretty much been able to get along everywhere I’ve gone. The people who are nice, you are nice back to them. People who are assholes, you be an asshole right back. They actually love it.
Like I say, I’ve pretty much been able to get along...except for that time I wore an IU shirt to a Kentucky basketball game at Rupp Arena. I made more people hate me in two minutes than in all the rest of my 53 years on earth. I probably shouldn’t have flipped them off when they were down 18 at halftime....
NYC area definitely, hard to believe upstate is like that.
Texas is the state Americans would most like see kicked out of the country? Hell, most Texans probably agree...
NYC does paint the rest of the state with a broad brush...
I rise in defense of New Yawkuhs. They get a bum rap on this. Most of the rude/arrogant New Yawkuhs are transplants from across the country. The statue in NY Harbor invites them all there and they come, in droves.
Native New Yawkuhs tend to be rather generous, kind and decent. I have yet to travel the city’s subway system while carting my baggage without a native coming along, offering to carry said luggage up the stairs for me. Not once in 40+ years.
Im sorry to see this but again make the claim they are referring to NYC broadly as new yorkers - Ive lived here all my life in western NY and found most everyone courteous and polite - Excepting major metropolitan areas and govt offices/dmv etc
“I have yet to hear anyone from north, south, or central New Jersey ever pronounce it that way.”
Yep. And there’s really no such thing as a NJ accent. If you grew up in Northern Jersey within about 15 miles of New York City for example on a line stretching down to the Driscoll Bridge your accent is likely to be more of a NYC accent. But since so many people live there you would get the impression that its a normal NJ accent. In the far northern and western part of the state that accent is barely noticeable if at all. Central, far western and southern NJ is more of a PA accent, with sometimes even a hint of a country drawl.
having lived in the finger lakes region all my life - I would advise you to think otherwise - property taxes are grossly above the national average, schools for the most part are poor (excepting wealthy enclaves). Scenery is good - food is great, weather is great 8 mos of the year and hunting is exceptional - that said - gun rights blow, salt eats your car and winter is far too long and cold
That is a big problem in NYS as those of us living 400 miles to the NE of NY City yet still in NY, get painted with the same brush.
It is true for downstate NY. Just a bunch of commies, or recent commie immigrants used to commie giveaways. Arrogant as the day is long. Think of a few million Anthony Weiners and you get the picture.
A few years ago, I was waiting for an elevator in the lobby of the Time Warner building when a few young women approached the now opening door and I stood aside to allow them to enter. One of the women, in her snide NY accent said, “guess you are not from NY”. Proud to NOT be from NY City!
Too bad all our politics is driven from that cesspool.
We just camped out in up by the mountains...can't get over how nice it was. We are down sizing..so taxes won't be such a bite in the butt...they kids are grown. As far as the snow..we are from Indiana..need I say more? I loved being able to take a trip into the city and see the crazy people acting a fool for attention. Never had that much fun in any other city..ever. We laughed our fool heads off. I loved it.
I might catch some flak here, but I just have to make this observation. There is a sort of ‘pride’ that New Yorkers take in being ‘aggressive’, and this is absolutely evident in driving behavior. When I’m driving on the east coast and find that someone is tailgating me very closely, I am usually accurate in predicting that the license plate of that car will be from either New York or New Jersey. Ironically, this kind of ‘I’ve got important things to do and I’m in a hurry’ attitude and behavior actually leads to lots and lots of traffic slowdowns.
As soon as someone has to brake, even for a minor reason, there is a chain reaction of braking that leads to an overall traffic slowdown. If you drive enough on the east coast you know what I’m talking about. There will be a big slowdown of traffic, and then it will pick up again miles later, and there is no accident or anything you can point to that lead to that slowdown. This is what happens when you are so aggressive that you leave no spacing. It’s not ‘aggressive sophisticated’. It’s just plain stupid.
Rant off.
Understood, but I’m not talking about Manhattan. I have no problem driving in Manhattan. You just have to become crazy, and not be surprised by anything. That’s pretty straight forward. It’s when you are on the highways/freeways in surrounding states, outside of the city, and are tailgated by ‘out of state’ New Yorkers, that you have to fight the urge to force them off the road and start a fist fight (I’m mostly joking).
