Senator Cruz may have to wait eight months to stop being Canadian

OTTAWA - U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who says he recently discovered he is likely a Canadian, must win security clearance from Canada's spy agency, fill out a four-page form and then wait up to eight months to sever his ties to America's northern neighbor.

Cruz, a Texas Republican who has fueled speculation that he may run for president in 2016, was born in Canada, which automatically makes him a citizen. On Monday he offered to renounce that citizenship. ...

People giving up Canadian citizenship must prove they are or will become a citizen of another country, do not live in Canada and are not a security threat. They must also explain in writing why they do not want to be a Canadian anymore.

A nonrefundable C$100 ($96) fee is payable in advance.

"It's very, very uncommon ... . I've been practicing 26 years and I don't think I've ever seen anybody renounce it," said Guidy Mamann, an immigration lawyer with Toronto law firm Mamann, Sandaluk & Kingwell.

You were a subject of the Queen, and the state at the time (New Zealand), had no desire to strip that status from their citizens.

The Commonwealth tends to treat Britain differently from the rest of the world (for obvious reasons).

If he was, Jimmy Carter just up and unilaterally decided to give part of the United States away.

That should frighten you, if you really believe a President has that power at his sole discretion.

If the capital of Canada were in Alberta it would take about 5 days; the libs run everything there.

McCain was born on a area designated through Executive fiat back in the day. Which means nothing.

Well, I have expressed my opinion in more detail here.

Believing as I do that this is a Constitutional issue reserved for decision by the electors and knowing that these days electors are selected by voters, my opinion and your opinion are important because you and I pick the electors who make these decisions.

So, please return my 4.50. ;-)

In my opinion, Cruz is a natural born citizen because he was a U.S. citizen at birth

You'd be wrong. You might as well say a poodle is a bulldog because he was a dog at birth. Even hussein agreed in Senate Resolution 511 that a NBC is one having TWO US CITIZEN PARENTS and BORN ON US SOIL.

Look at the ‘08 tickets:

First, we had the Kenyan.

Then, we had McColonCityHospital.

Next, Nader’s VP got his Mexican citizenship from his mama.

It wasn’t until the Libertarian ticket of Barr/Root that we had an eligible ticket. Someone please explain why it’s so difficult to find a NBC to run for POTUS. One ineligible ticket can be chalked up to a party pushing an agenda. Two ineligible tickets is beyond ridiculous and is an outright slap to America. Three?!? Really?!? That’s an outright coup.

Remember who was on the SR 511 six member committee with hussein and hillary? McCaskill. She has tried and tried to kick the NBC requirement out of the Constitution but has failed. Apparently it was easier to bypass the Constitution and crown Mr. Ineligible. You know, like he bypasses Congress with his EOs.

To quote your views from your linked post: "I don't think many folks in our founding generation had ever even heard of Vattel" I quit reading your opinion right there. It's obvious which end it's coming from. Maybe you should do a bit more research on the subject. Here's this little bit of history to put in that Starbucks cup.

It was over two centuries late, but a copy of a library book George Washington borrowed was returned yesterday to a New York library. It was over two centuries late, but a copy of a library book George Washington borrowed was returned yesterday to a New York library. The former president borrowed The Law of Nations by Emer de Vattel on 5 October 1789, according to the records of the New York Society Library

And this: Thomas Jefferson a Founder of Our Nation and Influential in the Framing of OurConstitution used his personal copy of 1775 French edition of “The Law of Nations orPrinciples of Natural Law by Vattel”, newly edited edition by Charles Dumas in 1775, tohelp write and influence others in the writing of the Founding Documents. The foundersand framers were fluent in French, the diplomatic language of the time, many havingserved as diplomatsto France.Thomas Jeffersonused his personal copy of the new 1775 French edition of theVattel’s Law of Nations or Principles of Natural Lawto write theDeclaration of Independence. He was also very influential in the creation of theU.S.Constitution. Quotations such as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, “Laws of Nature” and concepts for a new “more perfect” form of government with a writtenConstitution and independent Judiciary and the sovereignty of the People are right out of Vattel’s Law of Nations or Principles of Natural Law.

I quit reading your opinion right there

Well, if you had finished reading my post, you would have learned that I rely upon Justice Scalia's opinion that when interpreting the Constitution, we should interpret words as ordinary folks would have interpreted them back then. I doubt very many people back then had ever heard of Vattel or his little French book.

Anyway, like everyone else, you get a vote. Use it to support someone you believe is eligible.

P.S. When you rely on Jefferson regarding this issue, you might for the sake of fairness remind your readers that Jefferson didn't go to the Constitutional Convention. You don't want to mislead people. ;-)
