TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Gov. Chris Christie plans to sign a bill Monday barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, making New Jersey the second state to ban so-called conversion therapy, along with California.
The bill passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with bipartisan support in June. Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly gay, described the therapy as "an insidious form of child abuse."
Gay activists pushing the ban were uncertain what Christie would do.
In a signing note accompanying the bill that will be made public Monday, Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith.
The Republican governor also said the health risks of trying to change a child's sexual orientation, as identified by the American Psychological Association, outweigh concerns over the government setting limits on parental choice.
"Government should tread carefully into this area," he said in the signing note, which was obtained by The Associated Press, "and I do so here reluctantly."

+1000. That fat slob will NEVER get my vote.
If he signs this bill, he can forget about being President!
This wouldn’t prevent concerned parents and teens from going to a Christian councilor at a Church that doesn’t charge for services. By limiting this law to “licensed therapists” the effect may be to drive more repentant gays to the Church for relief from their affliction.
Yep. That’s the line in the sand I’ve drawn. I held my nose and voted for Romney and McCain. I voted for Rubio and had him morph on the most important issue. If Christie is the nominee, I will be voting 3rd party. I will no longer put up with this treatment from the Republican Party.
I think that ship sailed already.
The same churches now being threatened with hate crimes?
>>So it will be against law the to the to give medical/mental help to a mentally ill person?<<
All therapy must be approved through the Office of the Ministry of Truth.

I think AIDS is a greater health risk.
Sorry Chris, that determination is WAY above your pay grade.

I am so proud (of California)/sarc
I don't know what you are referring to.
You should read up. Seriously. There is a push to outlaw preaching the gospel re gays and charge hate crimes. It already happened in Africa and a US judge approved the suit go forward. (American church doing ministry)

Our overlords must protect the amount and quality of their “supply-base”.
PHOOEY to gaydom!!!!
PHOOEY to the “human rightsers” who treat “gays” as a “race” with special “rights”!!!!
PHOOEY to Hillary Rodham Izetbegovic Khomeini, who says that “gay rights are human rights”, while selling us out to islam at every turn!!!!
PHOOEY to Christie for signing this evil bill, and blatantly going against Christian teachings, which were made for our own good!!!!
Why not ban attempts to cure all other mental illnesses as well? Makes as much sense!
He may win 90% now.
He ain’t gonna win my familys votes.
I thought zero cured aids while he was lowering the oceans.
