Many Republicans who are eyeing a run for president in 2016 are backing an all-or-nothing plan to defund ObamaCare. More than half a dozen possible GOP White House candidates support that strategy while a handful are calling for a more nuanced approach to defunding or repealing the healthcare law. Another five are dodging questions and a couple others are not signaling one way or another.
[A detailed breakdown is outlined in the chart below.]
In short, some are willing to go to the brink and beyond of a government shutdown to defund ObamaCare. But its far from unanimous.
Still, the results of The Hills survey favors the shutdown-showdown strategy hatched by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), thanks to outspoken endorsements from GOP frontrunners, such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
The Florida Republican and three other colleagues also entertaining presidential runs Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and John Thune (R-S.D.) have backed Lees effort by refusing to support government funding bills that include money for ObamaCare.
The effort places immense pressure on GOP leaders and could result in a government shutdown if it prevents Congress from agreeing on a continuing resolution by Sept. 30.
Several top national Republicans have either been silent or agnostic on the threat, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Defund it, defang it, repeal it!!
This election cycle is the most important off-year election of my lifetime. It could be the beginning of the end for Obamacare or the beginning of Obamacare taking roots.
It’s Obama who would shut down the government by refusing to sign a CR.
Repeal it.
Remove the entire monstrosity form the books.
Rip it out by the roots, drive a stake through its heart, fumigate the chambers that spawned it. Socialist/fascism should never be allowed to rise again!!
You would THINK that the GOP would all rally round such a stand...defund, defang and repeal.
OKLAHOMA WINS FIRST OCARE BATTLE: AG Pruitt--- "Obamacare was meant to be so open-ended that it could mean anything. We are seeing thousands of pages of new rules being written, both by HHS and the IRS. The open-ended interpretation of Obamacare enables this.....if the law doesn't contain a particular provision, no problem. They just make it up as they go along."
Such is the case that involves the OK lawsuit.
The court rejected the federal governments argument that Oklahoma lacked standing to challenge the law, allowing us to proceed with this pivotal case, Were optimistic the court will recognize what states have known for months that the IRS disregarded the law by making the large employer mandate effective in Oklahoma or in any of the 33 other states without a state health care exchange.
REFERENCE Oklahoma challenged implementation of the Affordable Care Act after the IRS finalized a rule that would allow the federal government to punish large employers, including local government, with millions of dollars in tax penalties in states without state health care exchanges, which is not allowed under the health care law.
Congress provided a choice for Oklahoma and other states in implementation of the health care law, and the IRS is attempting to take that away by rule, General Pruitt said. The administration miscalculated how many states would support this law, so now theyre using the IRS to push through provisions that Congress did not pass.
Yup. Its Obama and the democrats threatening to shut down the government if they don’t get their boot jacking way.
Go, Oklahoma!!
Hear-hear!!
Maybe we need a national symbol or spokesman to take the bull by the horns.
Anybody know an out of work rodeo clown?
Yep you betcha boss!
No “hopefulness” for any candidate that goes squishy on the right things to do!
This is indeed an important election cycle. Every cycle has been important, especially since 2008 and the dems have that voter fraud down thing real well. That’s my main concern.
I would like to believe we could assume Romney won’t run but given his track record, it could be possible. What are the chances he would want to defund Obama’s socialist healthcare scheme?
The State Run Media will continue publishing false polls, the IRS will continue suppressing the Republican vote, 0bama’s NSA will be busy manipulating election results electronically, blah blah blah.. 2012, the Sequel. But if the Repubs run on defunding 0bamacare, PRO-LIFE, and SEALING THE BORDER ONCE AND FOR ALL, their support could be overwhelming.
I talked with the CEO of a hospital recently who is a strong conservative and who hates Obamacare personally, but he expects nothing of the kind to happen, and says his peers in other hospitals don’t either. After the abominable SCOTUS ruling, Obamacare is the law of the land and it will go into effect as any law must. It will not work, in fact he expects major problems, lawsuits, and all manner of chaos will ensure.
What happens when the failure becomes obvious depends on what happens in the 2014 midterms and in 2016. If an intelligent species controls Congress (note I did not say Republican!), then some reform and dismantling would likely occur. If Democrats still have control, the likely outcome would be “saving Obamacare” by implementing a single payer system.
Sorry for sounding like a wet blanket, but if anyone really sees someone with the plan, courage, and political clout to do anything other than talk about it before Obamacare goes into effect, let us know.
ACTION NOW We need to get the OK lawsuit going in every state. Contact the PTB in your state.
Judging from the legal language AG Pruitt used, I would also conclude that Obamacare might be ripe for a RICO action.
NOTE: anybody can file a RICO. How-to sites are all over the web.
FUMR!! LOSER!!
