Bakery Investigated for Refusing to Bake Lesbian Wedding Cake
Fox News ^ | August 15, 2013 | Todd Starnes

The state of Oregon has launched a discrimination investigation against a family bakery owned by Christians who refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

The Bureau of Labor and Industries will investigate whether Sweet Cakes by Melissa violated a 2007 law that protects the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people in employment, housing and public accommodations.

Aaron and Melissa Klein told Fox News they turned down requests to bake cakes for gay weddings because it goes against the Christian faith and their right to religious freedom.

“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman,” Klein said. “I don’t want to help somebody celebrate a commitment to a lifetime of sin.”

The 2007 Oregon law provides an exemption for religious organizations and religious schools but does not allow private business owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation.

Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian told The Oregonian he is committed to a fair and thorough investigation to determine whether the bakery discriminated against the lesbians.....

I seem to have missed something.
They are a PRIVATE business.
NOT a government agency.
Where did the freedom of association go?
How does it work that I as a private citizen cannot associate with whom I please?
I do not have to associate with queers, steers, politicians, government employees, or terrorists if I choose not to.
My suggestion would be get a good shyster (pro bono) who wants to make a name and file civil and criminal charges against these ‘things’.
You can always count on the law.
Sometimes it civil, sometimes it’s criminal, sometimes it’s contract.
Sometimes it’s jungle.

Look up the meaning of ‘public accomodations’. By US law any business that is not a private club or a religious institution must serve all who come to its doors.

Fellow Freepers, I would appreciate any guidance you could provide on the following: are there any group of attorneys that are working to provide legal strategies for businesses to protect themselves against this kind of extortion?

I disagree. As a Christian, I think it’s more appropriate to treat them nicely. If one is going to bake a cake for the lesbian couple, then one should do it right. However, that wouldn’t be my first choice. My first choice would be to honestly tell them my religious faith prohibits me from encouraging sin, and homosexuality is sinful. Then I would take it all the way to the Supreme Court if possible.

In other words, I don’t think dishonesty, anger, or revenge are appropriate Christian responses. It would be better to be punished for standing for honest, Christian faith. If the court case is ultimately lost, one can then pay the fine and/or close the business. I don’t think it’s right to repay evil for evil.

Tell the couple that they can have the cake for free provided they listen to a 30 min sermon on the wages of their sins and perverted lifestyle.Big Bro may be able to force you to bake the cake, but HE can't tell you what form of payment you have to accept.

My wife ran into a woman she used to work with and hadn't seen for quite a while. After catching up on other things this very topic came up and the woman my wife was talking with went on at great length about sex crazed queers forcing their view on everyone else and how horrible it was for Christians to have to be exposed to such things.

My wife said the conversation wound down right away when she asked this woman, "if you feel that way about it why did you get upset when I left your birthday party over your cake being shaped and decorated like a mans private parts ?"

I guess the wife just doesn't understand why someone who thinks good old fashioned heterosexual porn is a joke is upset by the queers wanting to have the same sort of fun at their wedding. Neither do I, for that matter, and I remember how mad my wife was when she came home right away rather than staying at that birthday party.

People have let far too much slide and accepted far too much perversion and porno to expect to be able to just yell "stop, that's too much" without a major, long term, battle to roll back a huge amount of what's already been accepted.

The queers being mainstreamed is just the logical next step and I doubt the same people who accepted the garbage to begin with are up to the sort of battle and change in their own lives it would take to stop the rot. I pray the younger folks surprise me, though, and put an end to the collapse of Christianity as a way of life that's the root cause of all of this.

Bake the cake. Change all fluids (water. milk) to sardine juice.

If they are unhappy with the cake they can return and demand their money back.

Simply give them their money back. What do they have to sue over?

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Therein lies the conundrum.

What if it were a Black Muslim bakery that refused to make a cake for a Black Lesbian couple?.

Where do JJ and Al line up for that one????
