The second movement is in 3/4, marked allegretto, and is in F minor. Its a dark movement with harmonies that are almost like Bach. The central panel moves to D-flat and A-flat Major, but the darkness remains. The opening theme returns with left-and-right-hand staggering.
The finale returns to F Major, 2/4 time, and is marked presto. Lou utilizes a form of counterpoint known as a canon, where the same theme is repeated at staggered intervals in the left and right hand. This sonata is all about left and right hand staggering in different forms. Its the unifying idea.
