By the hearing's end, the committee had voted along party lines to approve bills that would add all semi-automatic rifles that accept detachable magazines to the state's list of banned assault weapons; ban owning any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, including existing ones; ban "bullet buttons" that allow fast swapping of rifle magazines; require long-gun buyers to pass a written safety test; and add more crimes to the list of those that would bar someone from carrying a firearm. The bills, already passed by the state Senate, are moving inexorably closer to floor votes and the governor's desk.

These are some of the most draconian bills I’ve seen.
Next they’ll make everything but a single-shot gun outlawed.
“Next theyll make everything but a single-shot gun outlawed.”
All of this flies in the face of recent SCOTUS decisions. They are pissing into the wind.
Ummm, mag release?
Yeah, let's just make EVERYTHING scarier.
This will not end well.
That would be the reasonable thought... but I thought that Obamacare would be ruled unconstitutional as well.
Additionally, there is the interim period for someone to challenge the law, be found to have standing, bring the case before a court, then the appeals court, and then, maybe the Supreme Court.
That process could take years, while the potential for something to happen one of the justices that has a modicum of integrity grows ever greater.
Looks like the Chinese could take over 50 miles inland the entire West Coast armed with pointed sticks.
Which other amendments to the Bill of Rights need we take out permits for?
Screw the gummint!
Stupid tool thinks she lives in a “civil” society. Maybe if she left the confines of her gated community for a few hours she’d learn the truth!
The GOP is utterly gone in CA and has no power. So these bills will pass. The only question is will the Fed Ct declare them unconstitutional (as it should). Here’s hoping.
As if I needed another reason not to spend my vacation money in California.
There are many beautiful things about California.... it’s people isn’t one of them. It must be very difficult for conservatives to live down there.
What about a rifle with an integral magazine utilizing strip clips.
I will be ignoring all such “Laws”. I've already been through the Liberal effort to make Law Abiding Citizens overnight Felons.
I made the mistake of Registering my AK-47 "Assault Rifle" when they implemented the Statewide Ban. I later sold it so I wouldn't be on the "List". Now my CA legal AR-15 is the Target. Hell, my 10/22 is a Target too. Welcome to Commiefornia, where Liberal Wet Dreams come true. Remember, every Man is a Criminal. They just don't know it.
I remember those old Cagney Movies, “come and get me Coper”
California is merely a shadow of what it once was.
“bullet buttons”
They’re not just using a silly term. To get around the ban on detachable magazines, CA AR-15 shooters have replaced the magazine release with a button that can only be pushed with a tool or a live round called a “bullet button”. The CA legislature found out about it last year it was inevitable they would ban them.
“Looks like the Chinese could take over 50 miles inland the entire West Coast armed with pointed sticks.”
I say let them have it.
I'm not aware of any such onerous regulation or movement toward it in Oregon and Washington.
Why not the Police then too Loni, or the film industry? Both of those receive exceptions in your bill.
Bullet buttons... If they are referring to the magazine release that would outlaw most guns.
