The Constitution says that only "natural born citizens" are eligible to be president. Is Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas eligible, given that he was born in Canada of a U.S. citizen mother and a Cuban immigrant father?
If Cruz runs, 2016 will be the third consecutive election in which there were questions about the right of a major party candidate to serve. Unfortunately, the Framers left few clues about exactly what a "natural born citizen" is; Congress has not used the phrase in citizenship statutes since 1790.

I prefer the Constitution and rule of law.
The Constitution says that anyone who is a Citizen of the United States by virtue of being born is a Natural Born Citizen. Ted Cruz was born a Citizen. He is eligible to be president under the Constitution.
There is not a court in this Country that would rule otherwise.
With that in mind, if you would refuse to vote for Ted Cruz based on your own personal interpretation of the Constitution, then you are either an idiot or a Hillary shill.
There is no Constitutional interpretation at all - Cruz is a citizen by operation of statute. Without statute he would not be a citizen.

Cruz’s mom was born in Delaware and graduated from Rice University in 1956. She was over nineteen years old. She had spent almost all of her life in the US. Cruz wasn’t born until 1970. So, by your link, Cruz was a citizen at birth.
Without a statute none of us would be citizens. The Constitution gave Congress the authority to determine who is or is not eligible for Citizenship and at what point in life they would become Citizens. Congress determined that Ted Cruz was born a Citizen. That makes him eligible.

Sorry, Ray, but chapter 2 is the naturalization law. Chapter 1 is the “nationality at birth and by collective naturalization” (of residents of us territories) chapter and chapter 2 is the “naturalization” chapter.
Cruz’s case is in chapter one and is not one of the collective naturalizations of all residents of a particular territory (like Alaska, Virgin Islands, etc.)
It is the Congress’ definition of those who have automatic citizenship.
Incidentally, YOU are in it:
“SEC. 301. (a) The following shall be nationals and citizens of the
United States at birth:
(1) a person born in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof;”
By your definition, since you are in this law, then you are a citizen by “operation” of the law, and therefore you are NOT a natural born citizen.
In fact EVERYONE is in one of these paragraphs EXCEPT for those who become citizens by the naturalization process in chapter 2.

I don’t comprehend how a person born in Canada of a Cuban father and a US mother citizen of the US can be considered a natural born citizen by any stretch of logic. My version of Section 8 does not give Congress any power to change the wording of the Constitution particularly as to ‘ordinary citizen’ of Article I Section 2 and ‘natural born citizen’ in Article II Section 1. Obama has fragmented this Nation as to eligibility by appealing and impressing 50+/- of the population that the wording of the Constitution doesn’t mean what It states and he has openly called for changes, I suspect to weasel word in his typical fashion to make himself a legitimate POTUSA. I don’t want such from any side of the political spectrum.
Rand Paul is a libertarian with a few conservative sensibilities. But Ted Cruz is a real 3-prong conservative, AND he’s a Christian. (I don’t know Rand Paul’s religion.)
I’d prefer Paul to Romney. Rand has clearly stated he is pro-life, one of his conservative sensibilities.
I’d prefer Cruz to Paul.
To this point, Cruz is as blunt and direct as Palin in his conservatism. I have very little evidence that Palin will ever run for the presidency.
It could be the pro-Romney forces that are attacking Cruz’s eligibility. Ann Coulter has attacked on that point, and she was a Romney-bot before Romney himself.
