In just about seven weeks, people will be able to start buying Obamacare-approved insurance plans through the new health care exchanges.
But already, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is predicting those plans, and the whole system of distributing them, will eventually be moot.
Reid said he thinks the country has to work our way past insurance-based health care during a Friday night appearance on Vegas PBS program Nevada Week in Review.
What weve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but were far from having something thats going to work forever, Reid said.
When then asked by panelist Steve Sebelius whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a health care system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid said: Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.
The idea of introducing a single-payer national health care system to the United States, or even just a public option, sent lawmakers into a tizzy back in 2009, when Reid was negotiating the health care bill.
We had a real good run at the public option
dont think we didnt have a tremendous number of people who wanted a single-payer system, Reid said on the PBS program...

The bastards in Wash DC must first be subjected to the nightmare that is called nobamacare.
Then they will welcome "single-payer" with open arms.
Then they will learn the true evil of nobama's plan.

The IRS says the lowest insurance package for a family of four will be $20,000. Dividing $20,000 insurance cost by the number of working hours in a year (2,080) gives you an hourly cost of 9.61 just for the insurance. A minimum wage employee makes 7.79/hr * 2080 hrs= $16,203 dollars. Thats less than the cost of the insurance theyd buy for a family of four. Us taxpayers are supposed to make up the difference with subsidies. This is pure insanity.
Cost of heart surgery:
USA: ~$150,000
India:~$2,500
India has a better rate of survival 30 days out - about twice as good.
My concern is that we are institutionalizing a non-sustainable system that continues to be built on crony capitalism.
It was never anything else but.
That is when all these database links come in real handy. Who is gun owner, who is conservative, tea partier, etc. We will get killed off. No antibiotics for us.
“USA: ~$150,000
India:~$2,500”
A 6 week vacation in india with a surgery over there would be cheaper then $150k. But it won’t be an option if i ever suffer a heart attack due the limited time toget there. :-(
I have yet to see anyone discuss what effect this will have on those people who make their living in the healthcare insurance business.
I suppose they would just be filed under collateral damage.
This administration is 10 times lower than whale shit on the bottom of the ocean.
Good morning NSA.
Nationalized healthcare / socialism bump for later.........
My gold plated Cadillac insurance cost ~20k with eye care and dental (pre tax).
At a recent meeting on the new benefits they brought an attorney! On the more interesting questions they would check with the attorney then mumble.
My 6k $ top of the line hearing aids were mostly paid for. The new plan 1500$ per ear.
0bama care provides a large plastic funnel and a thick book or rules on how not use it.
Oh! But the new plan pays for a sex change if I want one!!
Such a deal!!!
Exactly! And Reid, and just about the entire 'Rat pack that supported it without bothering to read the bill, knew this all along. No great revelation from him here.
As soon as you start working, they will be taking an insurance premium for healthcare....a percentage of your salary.
Of course, the usual welfare "bums" will pay nothing. In fact, they'll probably receive more benefits than someone who is paying....just like they do now.
Will you wake up now?????
Defund this garbage!
Don’t worry. This is also going to get them to their so far unstated goal of a Guaranteed National Income. All production in the hands of the central planners and all equally miserly benefits doled out to those who go along.
The distinctions between workers and clients is socially unjust. We’ll all get to labor for the government and in return, the government will provide for those needs that they deem worthy at rates they decide. This is going to accelerate the practices seen in failing states and in the urban ghettos of everyone having an off the books gig to provide extra, non-taxable income. Those with no skills will simply exist on kibble in their high rise 250 sq foot cell with communal kitchen and bath.
Eventually, this will have to include the government workers themselves, but that is so far in the future, no one will even notice until it hits them broadside.
