Washington (CNN) -- The State Department has evacuated most of its diplomats from Lahore, Pakistan in response to a terrorist threat against the U.S. consulate, senior State Department and other senior U.S. officials told CNN. "We have picked up what we regard as a threat worthy of taking this action," one senior U.S. official told CNN. The State Department issued an "orderged departure" for all of its diplomats in Lahore Thursday, except for a handful of emergency personnel. The diplomats were moved to Islamabad, the nation's capital, officials said. A travel warning issued by the State Department said the department "ordered this drawdown due to specific threats concerning the U.S. Consulate in Lahore" and warned U.S. citizens against travel to Pakistan.

If I was a diplomat in Pakistan I would leave on my own after what happened at Benghazi.

Ordered Departure is for non-essential personnel. If it is the highest level threat the only personnel remaining are the Local Nation Guard Force, a Marine Security Guard detachment and a few of the authorized Regional Security Officers to protect the Mission assets and the head-of-mission, and the Information Management Specialist detail. If the Communications are cut from all avenues then a total evacuation is in order.

Good luck and know the choppers are on standby to evacuate the remaining few Americans should overrun become imminent!

Remembering that the Secretary of State and National Security Team just may cut their losses and RUN, leaving you behind to die is one option already in the SOP by this Administration.

The Consulate is still in operation. Non-essential personnel and dependents were ordered to depart. There are still Americans there running the consulate.

How about banning travel to the USA from Pakistan and about 15 other Mid-East/North African/South Asian countries?

Aw, but don't you realize the blow to the US economy?

I mean, all those 7-11 operators would be banned.

Clearly, your cunning plan has no merit.... /s

No, there would still be consular personnel and management personnel (Admin Officer, GSO, etc.) there as well. Other possible officers who would remain could include the AID director, the PAO, and the Pol/Econ officer.

The last time I visited our consulate in Lahore, there was no MSG detachment. Of course, that was about 15 years ago. This site doesn't show an MSG for Lahore.

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to, it is still AT LEAST a partial evacuation.

From OED:

Evacuation: to remove (someone) from a place of danger to a safe place, to cause the occupants to leave (a place of danger), or withdraw from (a place) ...

But, the Administration JUST CAN'T bring itself to say evacuation. Reduction in Staff or Ordered Departure somehow makes it more soothing to the American Public in the Adminstration's eyes ...

I just retired from State and at the US Missions (Embassy or Consulate, never an Annex) abroad it is actually called an ordered departure. Thing with this is that the liberal foreign service officer mind is bulletproof and they do not think danger or harm can ever come to them. They live in a fantasy world where politicians make great Social Changes by being in charge, but that there are no consequences. They hate the military, the other place I retired from because military people are pragmatic and understand the real world. I’m glad you posted though and I will like your definition a lot better - funny!!!!

Since John Effing Kerry speaks FRench, and loves the FRench, and wants to be FRench, it stands to reason that the USA will is now follow the FRench lead and copy the FRench surrender monkey model!

I think an “ordered departure” should include all the cash we give them. Take the money and run.
