Barack Obama Makes More Gaffes than George W. Bush and Sarah Palin Combined

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let's go to the audio sound bites. Here is Obama. This guy makes more gaffes than George Bush and Sarah Palin combined and is never called on it. This is Obama struggling to remember the name of the wife of the vice president.

OBAMA: Keeping our military strong means keepin' our families strong. Michelle and vice ... president... uh... uh... eh... The, uh... Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, they've made this their mission.

RUSH: Folks, you let that be George W. Bush, you let that be Ronald Reagan, and the stories today are, "Is Alzheimer's setting in? Do we have dementia?" I'm not kidding. They would have psychiatrists and psychologists on TV, and they would be analyzing this, and they'd be looking for any indication that a declining mental capacity is taking place. That was Camp Pendleton, California, Obama struggling. Listen to this again, now. This is not the Tonight Show. The next one is the Tonight Show. This is Obama.

I want you to hear it again, full-fledged.

This is at Camp Pendleton, California, yesterday.

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

> OBAMA: Keeping our military strong means keepin' our families strong. Michelle and vice ... president... uh... uh... eh... The, uh... Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, they've made this their mission.

RUSH: Whew. Folks, that's not a gaffe. He didn't remember her name, and that means probably that the teleprompter froze.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here's Obama on the Tonight Show Tuesday night and Leno said, "You mentioned infrastructure. Why is infrastructure a partisan issue? I live in a town, the bridge is falling apart, it isn't safe. How does that become Republican or Democrat? Why don't you just go fix the bridge?"

OBAMA: I don't know. As you know, for the last three years, I've said, "Let's work together." Let's find a financing mechanism and let's go ahead and fix our bridges, fix our roads, sewer systems, our ports. You know, the Panama Canal is being widened so that these big supertankers can come in. Now, that’ll be finished in 2015. If we don't deepen our ports all along the Gulf, places like Charleston, South Carolina, or Savannah, Georgia, or Jacksonville, Florida, if we don't do that, those ships are going to go someplace else. And we'll lose jobs. Businesses won't locate here. So this is something that traditionally has been bipartisan. I mean, it used to be Republicans and Democrats, they love cutting those ribbons.

RUSH: Now let me take a stab at this because I can answer this easily. Of course the gaffe there is Obama saying, "Look, we have to deepen our ports all along the gulf, places like Charleston, South Carolina, which is on the Atlantic ocean. Savannah, Georgia, on the Atlantic ocean, Jacksonville, Florida, on the Atlantic ocean. None of these are on the Gulf.

Now, you remember what grief Sarah Palin got when she said she could see Russia from her house. You remember that? And you remember how that statement, maybe at the top of the list, that statement from Sarah Palin was the primary means by which the media set out to destroy her, her intelligence, her credibility. And here is Barack Obama, not knowing what he's talking about, sounding so sure of himself. In fact, the AP has written about this and doesn't even mention the gaffe. They are whitewashing it. They have written a story that essentially praises Obama's brilliance for understanding that we need to deepen the ports. They don't even touch on the gaffe. This kind of stuff genuinely ticks me off.

But let's go back to Leno's question. Why is fixing a bridge a partisan issue. Why does it have to be Republican or Democrat? Why don't you just go fix the bridge? You know, Leno, in that question, encapsulates the low information voter and the way they think. They cannot possibly see the partisanship in infrastructure. They haven't the slightest clue. It doesn't make sense to them when you explain it. They just don't understand why would there be any disagreement? You've got a bridge that fell, just fix the thing. Where is the partisanship he wants to know, and I guarantee you that that attitude reflects the attitude of a lot of people.

And of course Obama (imitation), "Yeah, I don't know. I'm not partisan at all. I'm the one that's been trying to get everybody to work together on this infrastructure."

Well, let's examine how he did that. He lied to this country when establishing this stimulus. The stimulus was designed to fix all of these bridges and Obama is out there trying to make everybody think that their bridge is going to fall down or pretty much every bridge is in trouble and we're going to build schools and we're going to rebuild roads and all of this. And not one penny of that stimulus went to any of it.

So the way this becomes a partisan issue, Obama makes the case for the stimulus to rebuild crumbling infrastructure and gives the money to the unions in a money laundering scheme, teachers unions and public sector workers unions got 75 percent of the stimulus. We've been through all of this with the details and the dollar amounts. As a result, nothing got fixed; not one bridge, not one school, not one road, and very few infrastructure jobs were created in order for this work to take place and Obama then turns and blames the Republicans for it somehow. And it becomes partisan.

Where what we really have here is lying. What we really have here is misrepresentation and disingenuousness. What we have is a president going on television over and over again saying we need a stimulus to get the economy going, to come out of a recession and we're going to get this money and we're going to spend it on people building roads and bridges and fixing them and all that, and then that doesn't happen. The Republicans don't have the votes to stop anything. The first two years Obama owns the House, owns the Senate, owns the White House. It's one-party government. The Republicans can't stop anything and yet the bridge doesn't get fixed. Obama is the president, Limbaugh Theorem, Leno says, "Why don't you just fix the bridge?"

Mr. President, why didn't you spend money on repairing bridges like you said and creating jobs instead of giving it to unions? That question will never be asked because I doubt that Leno knows that that's what happened. I'd venture to say that the percentage of people outside of this audience and some of the alternative media don't know. They think the stimulus was spent on creating jobs. For some reason the Republicans still made sure the rich got all of the money. That's why it is constantly so frustrating.

Anyway, the gaffe portion of this, AP writes about it and praises Obama for knowing and saying and warning that we have to deepen our ports in the Gulf if we're to maintain our nation as a port economy. I tell you, the degree to which the people of this country are being dumbed down on purpose every day is striking. And all for the expression purpose of maintaining in power a political party which seeks a permanent underclass and as many dependent people on government as possible. As many uninformed, missinformed, know-nothings as they can get.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: By the way, folks, just to remind you: Sarah Palin never, ever said that she could see Russia from her house. Tina Fey said it on Saturday Night Live impersonating Palin, and it became popularly assumed by people that Palin actually said it. She never said it. Yet Tina Fey impersonating Palin saying that she could see Russia from her house became one of the primary reasons for Republicans to run around saying, "Well, this woman's not smart enough.

"This woman is an embarrassment! We can't have this woman in our party running for president. What an absolute embarrassment." Republicans, Democrats, everybody bought that she said that. It's embarrassing. The closest Palin ever came to saying anything like this was that you can actually see Russia from land there in Alaska, which is true! You can see Russia from parts of Alaska. She never said she could see it from her house.

She never said it qualified her for foreign policy, which was part of the Tina Fey joke. Here we have a legitimate statement of gaffe proportions -- and by the way, there were three or four of them on Leno and they're unremarked upon. The AP, in their effort to whitewash Obama's gaffe, actually added words to their report to cover for the guy. The AP printed, quote, "If we don't deepen our ports along the Gulf (and in) places like..."

They added the words "and in," and they put them in parentheses, which means it's not a direct quote. It's assumed. But Obama didn't say "and in." He said, "Our ports along the Gulf in places like..." They added the words "and in" and changed the whole thing. It's a whitewash, cover up. Tina Fey got an Emmy. I remember the last time (and there have been many of these) I was one of the 10 Most Fascinating People by Barbara Walters on that show she does in November.

Tina Fey was on that list of that list of 10 Most Fascinating People because of her Sarah Palin impersonation. Sarah Palin wasn't on the list. Sarah Palin wasn't one of the Top 10. Tina Fey impersonating Palin was. So eager and so desire desirous was the media to ridicule Palin out of a political existence that they went to the most ridiculous lengths necessary, and the sad thing is that the low-information population just sucked it up like a newborn baby. They just ate it all up.

They didn't question it. They just believed every aspect of it. Obama on Leno, "The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately." Another gaffe. He did say that. I double checked this. "The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately." Well obviously he's trying to say, "Eh, terrorism? It's no big deal. More people die in car crashes, unfortunately."

He was trying to express solidarity with families who've lost people in car crashes, by acknowledging how terrible that is. (translated) "It's still terrible, very terrible. But terrorism is not nearly that bad." Infantile! In another gaffe, Obama said that Putin, Vladimir Putin, used to head the KGB. Putin did not head the KGB, never has. Putin was a mid-level nobody there. Putin was one of those guys in the KGB who was a climber. He was forever hoping, climbing that latter, trying to get to the head spot.

But he never got there.

He was a nobody.

But now? Now he's running the whole show as he wanted to when he was a nobody at the KGB. Nobody ever leaves the KGB, by the way. Once you're there, no matter what you say you've done next, nobody ever leaves the KGB. I don't know if Obama was trying to pay him a complement or not. Let's grab a sound bite four. We've got a little miniature list here, a little montage of Obama gaffes and none of these are reported on, none of these are commented on, none of these are analyzed, none of these reflect negatively in any way on Obama as any of these uttered by a Republican would destroy the guy.

OBAMA May 9, 2008: I've now been in 57 states?

OBAMA June 5, 2008: You send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma. They end up taking up a hospital bed. You gave 'em treatment early, and they got some treatment, and a -- a breathalyzer or a in-hullator.

RUSH: What?

OBAMA April 4, 2009: I don't know the term is in Austrian.

OBAMA February 4, 2010: Navy corpse-man Christian Bouchard.

OBAMA February 4, 2010: Corpse-man Bouchard.

OBAMA February 4, 2010: Corpse-man Bouchard.

OBAMA May 26, 2008: On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today.

RUSH: Corpse-man? That last one, that was Memorial Day 2008. "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes," that means killed in action, "and I see many of them in the audience here today." He looked out and he saw the dead! Which, of course, he didn't. And in each one of these, if the media was inclined to talk about, it would be, "You know he didn't mean that! You know he didn't mean that. Come on. You know he knows Biden's wife's name. What are you talking about?

Well, one example I'm talking about is I have not drank the Kool-Aid. I do not believe that Obama is smarter than anybody else. I do not believe he has cut a new path and is a politician unlike any we've ever seen regarding his intellect. I don't believe any of this hocus-pocus. I didn't believe it when they said it about Hillary, Smartest Woman in the World.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Moscow Mills, Missouri. It's Rich, and thank you for holding, sir. It's great to have you on the program.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. It's been many years, you and I have been together.

RUSH: I thought you were familiar when I saw Moscow Mills. There are not too many people from there who call. There may not be too many people that live there besides you.

CALLER: (chuckling) Right.

RUSH: So I know that you've called here before.

CALLER: Yes, sir, I did. I was in California and looking for houses on the computer, and you were kind of concerned how I bought a house on the computer.

RUSH: Yeah. Well how many years ago was that, though?

CALLER: Well, I got here in year after trying to sell my house in '07. I retired in '06. I got to Sacramento in '89 and you had just left, and some young man told me, "You've got to listen to this guy."

RUSH: Yeah, and you found me in Moscow Mills?

CALLER: Well, my wife stayed home. She had MS at the time and thankfully all of that is behind us. But she would record every show at home so that when I was out -- I had gotten promoted to regional manager -- she would record, and then I would listen to you the next day between stops. I'd stop it and come back and start it up again.

RUSH: Well, I'm very flattered, sir. Thank you very much.

CALLER: So her and I became dittoheads within six months and we've been there ever since, and you're like a member of the family.

RUSH: Thank you, sir. I really appreciate it. That's the way I look at it, too. It's a giant familial relationship.

CALLER: The reason I called was the humor. If it wasn't for the humor, I would never have listened.

RUSH: Right. And now you're not hearing any? Is this a complaint?

CALLER: No, sir.

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: The thing I wanted to mention, the reason that spurred me into trying to get through was when President Obama referred to Mrs. Joe Biden, Dr. Joe Biden, I thought, "You know, we're being a little harsh on the guy, because he did ballpark it."

RUSH: What do you mean by harsh on the guy? They're buddy-buddy. They go to conventions. They stand on the floor. This guy could not think of her name! The wife of his vice president, he could not think of her name.

CALLER: (laughing) Well, I'm being facetious.

RUSH: That's more than the brain freeze that people talk about. My only point is, he did it. And that's fine and dandy. You can say, "Meh, we're making a little bit too much of it, because he was in the ballpark or whatever." My only point with all of this is that the media tries to destroy Republicans who make little faux pas like that and they start telling everybody how dumb and stupid or uncaring they are. They're so self-absorbed, so selfish and so forth. With Obama, it's always, "There's nothing to see here, because he's a dream of a guy to begin with" and all that.

"He missed the Gulf of Mexico? So what! He thinks there are 57 states? Big deal! At least he's trying; at least he cares," is the way it goes.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, Obama's non-gaffes are just as bad. Remember when he said he would not add one dime to the deficit or he wouldn't raise taxes on anybody making less than $200,000 a year or, "If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it"? Or that Obamacare was going to drive premiums down, or the private sector is doing fine? This guy's non-gaffes are just as dangerous.

Both George W. Bush and Sarah Palin are smarter than President You Didn’t Build That—and the sun rises in the east, too.

Wow, even Rush has had that nonsense meme implanted into his head. Palin never said that - it was Tina Fey in a comedy routine.

My favorite of Obama’s gaffes:

“This is the richest, most powerful country in the world and WE’RE GOING TO CHANGE IT!”

Or maybe it was the only campaign promise the son-of-a-polygamist ever kept.

Let's find a financing mechanism and let's go ahead and fix our bridges, fix our roads, sewer systems, our ports.

The first trillion dollars he was ever allocated was to fix the bridges, roads, sewers, infrastructure. Guess he counts on us to forget that.

"Now, you remember what grief Sarah Palin got when she said she could see Russia from her house. You remember that?"

Actually, Rush is wrong - Palin never said that, Tina Fey said it in an SNL skit. What Palin said was, "There are places in Alaska [the far-western Aleutians] where you can see Alaska." She never said she could see it from her porch, because you can't see it from there. Palin was just trying to make kind of a folksy point that whereas for people in Kansas - for example - Russia seems far off, there are places in Alaska where you can actually see it.

That line came from a speech where she was talking about how Alaska is in a unique setting isolated from the rest of the states. There are ICBM sites in Alaska.

The part misquoted by Tina Fey was "There are places in the Aleutian islands from which you can actually see Russia on a clear day".

True, he corrects himself deep in the article, but in his first comment he did not say that people falsely CLAIMED Palin said it, but that she said it.

Sarah Palin did not say she could see Russia from her house, Tina Fey did on Saturday Night live. Sarah said you could see parts of Russia from some points in Alaska, which is true. I understand what Rush was doing and I admire the man(big fan actually)but I wish he wouldn't have added to the stupid rumor.

Rush "corrected" himself later - I'm sure after a flurry of emails at his first statement - where he definitively stated she said it:

Now, you remember what grief Sarah Palin got when she said she could see Russia from her house. You remember that? And you remember how that statement, maybe at the top of the list, that statement from Sarah Palin was the primary means by which the media set out to destroy her, her intelligence, her credibility

Even the headline implies that Sarah Palin was gaffe prone, which is not true.
