"Now, you remember what grief Sarah Palin got when she said she could see Russia from her house. You remember that?"

Actually, Rush is wrong - Palin never said that, Tina Fey said it in an SNL skit. What Palin said was, "There are places in Alaska [the far-western Aleutians] where you can see Alaska." She never said she could see it from her porch, because you can't see it from there. Palin was just trying to make kind of a folksy point that whereas for people in Kansas - for example - Russia seems far off, there are places in Alaska where you can actually see it.

I think Sarah Palin would have been better off answering the direct question with a direct answer.

She was asked to identify things that would enhance her foreign policy experience.

Even without the Tina Fey revision, it was a poor ("folksy") answer to a serious question.
