One of the British teenagers attacked with acid in Zanzibar was assaulted in the street just weeks earlier for "singing during Ramadan".
Katie Gee and friend Kirstie Trup, both 18, had the corrosive substance thrown in their faces by two men on a moped as they strolled through Stone Town, in the capital of the island, around 8pm last night.
The girls suffered burns to their faces, hands and chests and were airlifted to hospital in Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania, where their injuries were described as "not life threatening".
The horrific assault came at the end of the Muslim holy month of fasting of Ramadan, and as people began to celebrate the Eid holiday.
Just weeks earlier, Katie, from London, claimed she was attacked in the street by a Muslim woman for singing during the religious festival.
The teenager tweeted: "A Muslim woman just hit me in the street for singing on Ramadan. Is that normal?"

Pal Oli Cohen, 21, said: "Katie was attacked two weeks ago by a Muslim woman for singing on Ramadan.
"She was shocked as it just came from out of the blue - but she wasn't scared enough to come home she stayed out there to finish her trip and volunteering.
"It's a very difficult time for their friends and family and I just wish them well. "Both are very nice girls who wouldn't hurt a fly."

Any Anglo-European that goes to a Muslim country is a fool. There are plenty of other places that need mission work where you are appreciated.

Yes. It's not even really a fast because you can gorge yourself in the morning and evening every day, which I imagine many Muslims do.
That's not healthy and not really difficult to do.
Also, what other fast prevents you from even drinking water throughout the day? Once again, not very healthy.
Most other religious fasts are a good compromise between physically challenging and healthy. You deny yourself food for at least 24 hours, but drink water throughout.
And no music during Ramadan? How stupid is that? I can see limiting oneself to religious music, but no music at all?
