It sounds like a small-bore infraction: Liz Cheney, a United States Senate candidate in Wyoming, bought a state fishing license last summer even though she had not lived in the state for a year, as required.
But the matter has inflamed her critics in the state, who have already labeled her an interloper and taken issue with her challenge to Senator Michael B. Enzi in next year’s Republican primary. Mr. Enzi is a popular three-term incumbent who is as conservative as Ms. Cheney.
“It’s a serious misstep,” said Liz Brimmer, a Republican strategist in Wyoming and former chief of staff to former Senator Craig Thomas, a Republican. “Allegedly poaching in a state where being a resident sportsman is, by law, an earned privilege. Wyoming people will take this very seriously.”

No, her reason for challenging him has nothing to do with the sales tax.
Here’s what I’ve heard from “connected” people in the state:
After the last 10 years of continuous war with no apparent goal, Wyoming has turned rather isolationist. It is clearly obvious that the Oh-So-Terribly-Smart people in DC, usually graduates of Ivy League schools, have no intention of doing what needs to be done to win the “war on terror” (which is a bizarre appellation in the first place). They’re content to use terrorism as an excuse to sniff into everyone’s email and phone records, while not actually taking the war to actual terrorists.
Furthermore, there is a wing of the GOP that cannot seem to keep their mouths shut on foreign issues where we have no actual interests and no good options. eg, Syria. Why would we ever want to involve ourselves in Syria? We have no interests in that country. There are no allies, there are no friends of the US. As more and more news leaks out, it is clear that Benghazi was a gun-running operation which involved Syria.
This region of the country has always been isolationist - even in the run-up to WWII. We don’t like DC. We don’t like politicians in general. We don’t like DC smarty-pants types coming in here to tell us what to do.
The GOP-e can see the handwriting on the wall. Mike Enzi was going to run one more time, and it would be obvious to all that it is his last term. There will be people coming forward from inside the state to run for Enzi’s seat, and they’re likely to be isolationist and libertarian-leaning. The NSA issue is a big deal here, as are the issues of gun control and over-regulation.
The GOP-e, controlled by neo-cons, wants to keep a reliable interventionist contingent in Congress. They can see that they’ve got a problem on their hands with the Tea Party candidates, who ask question like “Why are we sending money and military people to these countries where we have no actual interests?”
So Lizzie shows up to run for Enzi’s seat. She’s a flaming interventionist, tied at the hip to the GOP-e and very much a DC player. The GOP-e thought that playing the Cheney “card” in the state would be their best shot to get a reliable meddling interventionist into the Senate as they look at their prospects of people taking down clowns like the limp-wristed Graham, McCain is likely to croak soon and there are primary challenges taking shape all over the map.
You seem to be incapable of grasping, let alone defending, a position.
