It sounds like a small-bore infraction: Liz Cheney, a United States Senate candidate in Wyoming, bought a state fishing license last summer even though she had not lived in the state for a year, as required.
But the matter has inflamed her critics in the state, who have already labeled her an interloper and taken issue with her challenge to Senator Michael B. Enzi in next years Republican primary. Mr. Enzi is a popular three-term incumbent who is as conservative as Ms. Cheney.
Its a serious misstep, said Liz Brimmer, a Republican strategist in Wyoming and former chief of staff to former Senator Craig Thomas, a Republican. Allegedly poaching in a state where being a resident sportsman is, by law, an earned privilege. Wyoming people will take this very seriously.

I wonder if maybe they might also find her HS and college school records and old school friends in their search through her drawers?
Unless the Republicans decide to fight like these bastards, all is lost.
it is a folking stupid law that wouldn’t let a tourist buy a fishing license, what is the state thinking
Unless the Republicans decide to fight like these bastards,
Uh, Liz is fighting another Republican - Sen. Enzi.
it is a folking stupid law that wouldnt let a tourist buy a fishing license,
If I understand the article correctly, anybody can buy a license, it just costs less for residents
This came from the New York Times.
I like this race.
:D
The law is absurd.
So it doesn’t apply to Liz Cheney?
You can buy an out of state fishing license. Everywhere I’ve been, you have to show your state drivers license when you get an in-state fishing license.
never mind.
my bad.
This came from the New York Times.
It’s in the Wyoming papers as well. Are you glad Liz Cheney is running against a Republican Senator, instead of against Virginia’s Democratic Senator?
It takes a whole lot of gall to pretend this is an issue, in the climate of government these days. Good grief.
You can buy a non resident one day license.
It takes a whole lot of gall to pretend this is an issue
It wouldn’t be an issue if, instead of moving to Wyoming to spend money against a sitting Republican senator, Ms. Cheney stayed in Virginia to challenge that state’s Democrat senator.
However, if I move from, Iowa to Minnesota or Missouri or other nearby states, I can get an in-state hunting or fishing license as soon as I get a drivers license in that state.
A one year wait is ridiculous.
The state is thinking that residents and none residents should pay different amounts to fish so they created resident and non-resident fishing licenses -- most states have them. Cheney in this case bought a resident fishing license and that's what the reasonable criticism is about.
I’m just glad she’s running.
Since when did residency become such an issue?
Lugar didn’t live in IN for 3 decades that he was their Senator.
Sorry...I just see this as a Cheney-bash
I just see this as a Cheney-bash
Hey, Liz Cheney’s getting ready to spend probably hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to bash Republican Sen. Enzi. (Instead of staying in Virginia and challenging its Democrat Senator). She’s starting the bashing — already calling Enzi, who’s 69, “confused.” Looks like she was “confused” when she bought an in-state license when she was ineligible.
I’ll bet she leaves the seat down too.
