On Mark Levins radio show on Monday, Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio argued that Republicans should use Congress budgetary powers to defund President Barack Obamas unpopular 2010 health care reform law.
Rubio, who seemed to have fallen out of favor with Levin after the immigration debate in the Senate earlier this summer, used his appearance on the conservative talk radio program to talk about an idea that has pitted newer Republican legislators against a GOP establishment that insists the defunding scheme cant work.
[T]here has to be some point at which we say, Look, this is the issue where we draw the line, Rubio said. I mean, on this issue were willing to fight no matter what the consequences, politically or otherwise. If that issue is not Obamacare, I cant understand what issue it would be. And thats the point I tried to make of all the issues out there, if there was one issue that we should be willing to go to the limit on, this is it. I mean, you look at the impact this thing is going to have October 1 on every aspect of our economy. Theres literally not one aspect of our economy that is not negatively affected by Obamacare. And if thats not an issue were willing to fight to the end on, Im not sure there is such an issue that wed be will to do that on.
Rubio argued the House has the power to pass a bill that would defund Obamacare and then send it to the Senate. If the Senate, led by the Democratic Party, chose to dismiss that bill and opt to shut down the government, the onus would be on the Senate, a point he said had not been made enough.
Many Republicans have questioned the tactic of pushing to defund Obamacare, but Rubio reiterated his point, noting that you cant vote for the laws funding and simultaneously be against it.
[L]ook, Im not attacking anyone directly, Rubio said. All Im saying is that you cannot say you are against Obamacare if you are willing to vote for a law that funds it. If youre willing to fund this thing, you cant possibly say youre against it.
He is aiding and abetting the largest foreign invasion in the history of the world !
” He is aiding and abetting the largest foreign invasion in the history of the world ! “
All we need to know.
I said all along, Rubio is excellent on most issues but he completely sold us out on immigration, and blatantly lied to us to push through a crappy bill. I am not going to get over it because he continues to be good on other issues. He’s untrustworthy to me now, as is Paul Ryan if he continues the same in the House.
Unlike total sellouts like McCain and Christie, I won’t completely dump on Rubio, but I am awfully close. I say this as someone who sent him money when we was barely in double digits against Crist in the primary. I am sorely disappointed...not simply that he pushed an amnesty bill, but that he pushed through a terrible bill that did not meet his stated criteria, and then rammed it through the Senate ignoring real problems in the bill and lying about it.
Newsflash: He is a traitor to his country. Thats what all amnesty pushers are. Is he right on the thread issue? Yup. That takes nothing away from his well earned status as the poster child for America destroying RINOs everywhere.
He’s excellent on issues that are non starters.
On the only issue the republicans are capable of advancing, immigration, he’s a traitor to America, like almost every other republican.
Marco Rubio is an actor in the kabuki theater.
The guy wants back on our good side but he cannot. He has violated one of the maybe 4 or 5 issues that you cannot do and still be a conservative
Will somebody please explain to me how Rubio expects Congress to defund Obamacare when such a bill would need the support of both the Senate and the Oval Office at this time which probably isn’t going to happen?
What am I overlooking, other than Rubio is politicking for 2016?
Also, are conservatives in DC (unicorns?) possibly wanting everybody to get hit with Obamacare tax tsunami so that angry citizens get off their couches and vote for conservative supermajority of Congress in 2014?
If you are going to sposor a bill with McCain, Graham, Schumer and Durbin to make the Democrats a permanant majority then you can’t pretend that you are one of us.
Unfortunately the psuedocon/liberal wing of FR and the right as a whole will forget all about it and call US traitors for ‘holding feet to the fire’.
Gee...I seem to remember a very vocal faction around here demanding we do that very thing...
I guess that only applied to certain people and not pet pols. Is it any wonder conservatism is in such a mess? Could we be anymore lousy with libs?
Marco Rubio’s Illegal Alien Amnesty law will put Illegal Aliens on ObamaCare......some nerve for this Hispano Racist going after those supposedly not willing to defund ObamaCare, while Rubio-Obama Amnesty will extend it to tens of millions of illegals
The GOP loses elections by trying to cover up its liberals
RE: What am I overlooking, other than Rubio is politicking for 2016?
In which case the following are also politicking for 2016: Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul.
RE: one of the maybe 4 or 5 issues that you cannot do and still be a conservative
Can you name them for our edification please?
Fool me once, shame on you...
Marco Rubio is a damn liar. That is all that needs to be said about him.
Isn’t it pretty obvious?
- Border/immigration
- Pro-life
- Pro-traditional family
- Protect children from pervs
- Low/no taxes
.... should be added....
- (less) anti-big government
They undoubtedly are politicking for 2016. Business as usual in DC. :^(
