The so-called “chatter” about a terror plot that led the Obama administration to close 22 U.S. embassies and consulates Sunday across the Muslim world goes beyond anything heard before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee and Fox News sources.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss, of Georgia, said Sunday the so-called “chatter” detected by U.S. intelligence agencies that led the Obama administration to order the closures and issue a global travel warning to Americans is "very reminiscent of what we saw pre-9/11."
[snip] A Mideast diplomat says al-Zawahiri “pressuring” Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to launch new terrorist attacks on Western and American targets is “unprecedented.”
Sources also told Fox News the extraordinary volume of “chatter” follows months of “absolute quietness” on terrorist phone lines, computer outlets, websites and other communication outlets.

If one’s normally quiet dog erupts into an unusual state of continuous loud barking, it’s essential find out what’s wrong, even to the point of taking Fido to the vet. Otherwise, Fido may well die.
If our intelligence agencies can’t pinpoint the areas of attack Al-Qaeda is chattering about and prevent the attacks, we’re doomed.
At least when dogs get sick they can normally count on their owners to do everything possible to try to help them, not run off for crucial hours to play golf. Our president treats us worse than dogs.

Could be planned attacks on soft targets during back to school shopping, but somehow I doubt it. Just not big enough or spectacular enough.
Sunday (if accurate ) may be a clue. Sporting events? coordinated attacks at large churches? They would go for maximum casualties to inflict maximum terror. Government buildings are closed on Sundays or at least have many fewer personnel. To find a target I would look at where big crowds gather, and Mideast terrorists love to use aircraft.

I've been puzzled at why they would intimidate the survivors of the Libya attack to keep quiet, just for political gain. This makes much more sense.
