An editor at the Chattanooga Times Free Press has been fired after adding a pithy headline to a piece critical of President Obama's stimulus plan. Author Drew Johnson announced on Twitter that he had been fired:
I just became the first person in the history of newspapers to be fired for writing a paper's most-read article.
The Times Free Press published the piece Tuesday under the headline "Take your jobs plan and shove it, Mr. President: Your policies have harmed Chattanooga enough." Johnson has admitted the headline was his idea but claims headlines are changed routinely.
A statement published by the Free Press says Johnson's decision to change the headline was the reason for his termination.
The headline was inappropriate for this newspaper. It was not the original headline approved for publication, and Johnson violated the normal editing process when he changed the headline. The newspaper’s decision to terminate Johnson had nothing to do with the content of the editorial, which criticized the president’s job creation ideas and Chattanooga’s Smart Grid. The Free Press page has often printed editorials critical of the president and his policies.

The above is true for members of Congress also, just ask those who got fired by Boehner.

It's not much of a free press when you can get fired for utilizing freedom of the press.
The “Divine One” and his degenerate supporters in the media, and elsewhere, live in mortal terror that people will finally figure out what he is and use “The Descriptive Classification!”

I certainly hope he does. I have no doubt if he had said the same about a conservative, he would be getting a promotion.
That's what is known in the business as "a lie." It had everything to do with embarrassing the paper's publisher in front of his friend Obastard. What surprises me is that a publisher in TN apparently has never heard of Johnny Paycheck.
Did he use any profanity that perhaps would have been subject to violation of his employment contract? No.
Not sure if a wrongful termination suit would prevail, but a liberal scorned could do significant damage if turned from the dark side.
Others had the same problem, too, because they weren't female, or let alone non-white.
Under the laws, public meetings are open to the public.
The mayor, who didn't like the whistle being blown on the city's illegal actions, called the paper...and they fired the reporter [for exposing law-breaking].
He got a hefty settlement from Gannett with a gag condition.
While the headline is clever, the text of the editorial is a masterful slap down of Obama's stimulus scam.
A liberal editor "jokingly" wrote it on what was the copy sent down to be print-set.
The next edition had something like "All Must Share The Burden".
The paper didn't fire him.
The opposition no longer is protected. The justice system would rather prosecute them rather than uphold the law and the Republican party does NOTHING about it!!
So much for free speech and freedom of the press.
As a writer, I can tell you that the title of an opinion piece sets the tone of the article. It can either make it or break it. The author should have complete control of the opinion being presented, including the title under which it is published. The wrong wording of the title can change the way in which the piece is either accepted or rejected by the reader. That was his sin. The editorial board probably had a denigrating title in mind for his editorial and he did an end run around their attempt to sabotage his work.
