CBS Philly ^ | August 1, 2013 | Joseph Santoliquito

Philadelphia (CBS)—Riley Cooper may not have to worry about any bounty being placed on his head by Marcus Vick. Embattled by racial slurs at a Kenny Chesney concert in June, the Eagles’ wide receiver may have deeper concerns ahead with actual NFL players on the field when the season begins.

Either the N word is verbotten or its not. If it is then one person's use of the word should be viewed exactly the same as any other's, regardless of who they are.

This double standard is ridiculous.

A nobody football player yelling n##### at a complete stranger who is simply doing his job is probably not a good idea. No sympathy from me regardless if the term is verboten or not.

I had no idea concerning the particulars of this case - if thats what happened then I’d be inclined to agree with you. I’m referring the manner in which society, in particular the media, looks at the subject.

Translation: there will be people on the field who will want to hurt or cripple him.

Imagine a black player having to worry about his safety from white players, over his using the term "cracka", and how the media would look at it.

With all the thugs, wannabe rappers and general special people in sports, this is not worth a 9 rating. How come everything else is ok when certain groups do it?

You got it. Reverse this & only sounds are crickets. I'm wondering why more people are not looking to move out of this once great nation.

How many times is this word said on the playing field or sidelines during an NFL game? I don’t think it would be less than four figures. And we’re worried about one drunk fan of Kenny Chesney who happens to play in the NFL?
The double standard is mind-boggling.

...however, if he is a franchise star it would be just fine and dandy...?

...as I stated on another thread about this, the goal of the NFL appears to run white players out of the league, by whatever means available...

Would that apply also to the endless parade of foul vile profanity we must deal with not only in movies and TV, but from low-class people every day?

I’m tired of this Word That Must Not Be Spoken being the ONLY taboo word. About time we got civilized again and started treating ALL foul words the same. But no, only the 1 particular word for the perpetually-offended people is “evil” anymore.

The NFL and the Eagles by their actions with Riley Cooper have equated the use of the N word to murder. If Cooper gets cut, it will be no different than cutting Aaron Hernandez.

And all because of Zimmerman being innocent- and the President being black.

I would hope it would apply. But this would have all been forgotten by now if Riley had called the guy a motherf....... or a..hole. Unfortunately his “drunken rage” default was apparently set on the N word.
