Staff at well known chains including McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and Wendy's were due to walk out on Monday in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, St Louis, Kansas City and Flint, Michigan.

They are calling on fast food restaurants to pay $15 per hour, which compares to the New York state average pay of $8.25 per hour and the minimum wage of $7.25.

The action is being organised by Fast Food Forward, a movement of employees from fast food outlets in New York City aimed at raising wages and increasing workers' rights

Yep. I would.

If they force McD's, etc to pay $15/hour, they'll be let go anyway. So the end result is the same.

Sorry, any middle aged “man” who is still working at a fast food restaurant as anything but a manager or owner isn’t a man. He certainly isn’t providing for his family or paying for his way.

The economy sucks, especially for blacks. You take what you can. Or would you rather, for him to prove his “manhood,” have him quit his job entirely and go on 100% welfare? Would that make him a “man” in your eyes?

So for all that time, was the economy so bad that if he were truly qualified to be promoted, he couldn’t be?

So pull back the covers, what do you find? Here’s what I bet an actual reporter would find out - almost everyone they took a picture of are union employees at other types of business. This has little to do with ‘worker rights’ and everything to do with organizing service employees. It is the ‘Walmart Strikes’ all over again, where non-employees ‘walk out’ of the business, trying to entice actual employees to do the same.

But really, all they are there for is to get their pictures in the paper and the story out there. So that they can turn around and go to the company and say, hey, we can put a stop to this, simply help us organize the employees. You’ll only need to give a minimal raise and collect our union dues, and we’ll handle all these pesky worker problems.

21st century union extortion. The new mob.

They are already planning on cutting those jobs anyway.

My son’s company is in the process of installing new ordering systems that will, one day soon, allow people to order and pay from their smart phones.

From what I understand, you order when you are on your way to the restaurant and the software tracks your location via your phone. Your order is ready when you arrive so you can just pick it up at the counter or drive thru.

The automation of many industries will create an interesting problem. When enough people are unemployed or on welfare what will we do? They’ll vote for free stuff and get it as the majority.

Losers. Teachers should show this to to kids who are thinking about not going to college or not learning a trade.

IOW, a union-led communist front, although I sympathized that $7-$8/hr is not a living wage in some of those places. See, that's why you move on from jobs like that which really ought to be the realm of high school kids and college students. You don't try to make a career out of serving burgers and chicken. You use those jobs as a stepping stone to something better that pays a normal wage after demonstrating that you are a hard worker who shows up on time and does their job right.

I disagree. I would do it, if there were no other options open to me, and I needed to provide for my family. There's no shame whatsoever in earning an honest wage for doing an honest day's work.

Right now, an honest wage for that type work is $8.25.(Though, I've heard that in North Dakota, fast food workers are making a whole lot more than 8.25 because of a lack of workers....)

If these people would like to make more than $8.25....then they need to look to better themselves, or for other employment. Saying "Double My Salary.....well....just because", isn't the way it works.

McD's, et al, will handle this tempest in a teapot just fine.

I think he was referring to someone who has worked in Fast Food for 30 years, not somebody who suddenly found themselves unemployed in another industry.....They once were able to provide for their families,

used to avoid Panera because the local frnachise was so obviously staffed by libtards, they could not keep their politics out of serving customers. But then I heard the Panera owner and founder was a good christian and supporter of conservative causes I think I will write him a letter asking if he would approve of this behavior.

The founder of Panera Bread -- Ron Shaich -- is the former Treasurer of the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

"I'm a Man" with no skills who wants to make more money like I have skills.

I am a man who wants to do a kid's job and still get the salary of a man.

They'll say Baxter(like ATMs)is taking away jobs. Yes, he's taking away non-skilled jobs. Somebody with skills had to draw and design him, build all the parts, wire him, program him, assemble him and maintain him. The jobs of the future will require skilled workers and we are not preparing for it.

But even if a company made those low-skilled jobs available, would there be takers?

Fire them.”””

Damn Straight.

I have college education credits in accounting.

I have been doing some form of accounting or another since 1957. I have been titled as a Full-Charge Bookkeeper with me abilities.

I have been self-employed since about 1980. Prior to that, I was working an 8 hour day & doing books for small businesses at night & on weekends.

The last time I raised my hourly rate was Jan 1989-——yes, I said January 1989.

I am charging a rate of $20 per hour—strictly on an hourly basis. If you are running a business that only requires me to charge you $100 a month, that is what you got charged.

Pay someone —who cannot even make change from a $1 bill or a $10 bill without having the register tell them what the change should be—$15 per hour?

They are nuts.

You can thank the San Francisco & New York City politicians for planting the idea of ‘a working wage’ into their uneducated heads.

More of the entitlement attitudes from the uneducated & employable sections of USA society.

I would fire them all. There are plenty of people out of work who will take their jobs.
