Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip...
"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.
His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.
Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.
He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

Update in post #41.
gIVE IT A BREAK...You obviously did not read the article..
we should not “marginalize homosexuals” and there is a difference when it comes to abuse.
sounds pretty Christian to me.
Yup....unbelievable.
A lie travels around the world before the truth can get its pants on.
I pretty much agree with you here. “Teaching more fully right from wrong” is an understatement, actually. The spirit of Christ will take control more and more. This commonly pulls the saved person even in this life up to a level that the world does not live at.
Why don’t YOU tell the Pope how to comunicate...he obviously needs YOUR advice on scripture.ha.
Then none of us should serve jury duty.
We are suppose to judge people all the time by the agreed standards of law and morality.
Sorry but “...who are we to judge...” Sounds like a bad Donahue episode.
Folks need to realize that any media report that presents the Holy Father as saying something controversial is probably propaganda, not journalism.
I agree with you. Lies do become nimble in the world. It’s because the world is far more invested in wrong than it is in right.
I’m just praying that Francis did not capitulate in language and use the word “gay.” What a misnomer.
It seems to me that some folks, even some folks on this forum, actively seek out the lies and prefer them to truth.
And so, the capitulation begins. Always small, but the first leak in the dam is small, too.
No, its more fun to rant hysterically at America’s number one most hated enemy, Roman Catholicism.
Why would the pro-catholic liberal media misquote the Pope?
And the comment you made is sadly characteristic of much if not all of Roman Catholicdom. (Hey my spelling checker says I just coined a word.) You gotta be Someone Special to grasp divine truth ab initio. No, the Holy Spirit couldn’t possibly be moving among the hoi polloi....
Then the child sexual abuse by priests shouldn't be judged either?
Unbelievable.
Cant be forgiven for a sin unless you admit that it`s a sin, ask forgiveness, and turn from it.
Also for a Christian to believe that they are “gay” means that they are listening to a lie from the devil, and at the very least are not equipped to be a Priest, Pastor or even anybody to be looked up to
Did I mention that homosexuality is a abomination?
Well, fear can also draw attention to alarming details. The fear might or might not be a godly fear. I just hope Francis didn’t say “gay” at least not without first qualifying it. That is such an insidious misnomer. Now if he did that’s not the end of his segment of the Christian world, but I hope he avoids it in the future.
The Pope is NOT saying that it's alright for priests to be active homosexuals.
What the RCC teaches has changed many times, exactly BY many different popes.
