Huge amounts of food aid of all kinds are stolen. There are elaborate scams in every welfare neighborhood for converting food payment cards into cash. Some of them are even controlled by organized crime rather than being free-lance operations like the ones in the article, and the money goes into whatever these criminal gangs are using it for, ranging from simple profit to terrorism.

Obviously, if the US recipients can afford to do this, they don’t need the food aid in the first place. However, for those who do, I think we need to go back to the old programs, where they would go to warehouses a couple of times a month and get boxes full of surplus food staples: beans, canned beef and ham, rice, dried potatoes, canned vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, apple juice, etc. In other words, it was stuff they had to cook.

Having worked in one of these areas back in the 1960s when the surplus food program still operated, I know that they traded the stuff around, both exchanging different food items with their neighbors or exchanging it for something else, such as an article of clothing. But that was pretty harmless compared to what’s happening now.

I wonder how many people we could employ with the USDA food stores you are talking about. Paid for by the reduction in fraud.

And yes they should be sold as raw food so they would have to be prepared, not given as meals ready to eat or nuke.

I see civic centers in this too to help teach people how to manage. Classes that they don’t teach anymore like Home Economics.

I have no idea if it is feasible but sounds like it could be interesting.

NYC is absolutely notorious for welfare fraud which is why illegals make a beeline for it as soon as they get into the country. The NY Post did a whole report on this about 6 years ago, step by step showing how they do it. They get fake IDs on Roosevelt avenue in Queens, then go get welfare, then get another fake ID and keep going back and forth until they can support themselves and their family 24/7 living on tax money. No need for a job.

And incredibly absolutely nothing was done about it because the Despot Mike Bloomberg actually DEMANDS it if you can believe it. He absolutely refuses to do anything about illegals, says the city "would collapse without illegals" so they continue to rip off the taxpayers in between murdering them because they are never checked for criminal records. All the time I read about illegals killing somebody. There are tons of them here with records as long as your arm, but all that means nothing to Bloomberg which is why I moved the hell out. I'm not putting the life of my family in danger like this because some psychotic despotic psychopath like Bloomberg thinks it's funny to have killers walking around the public.
