The upshot of all of this is that when Sisi calls on all Egyptians to rally "in every public square", and when the general characterises these forthcoming rallies as a "mandate" to fight "violence and terrorism" this has to be seen as paving the way for more military action.
The end game is not very difficult to see. Sisi has already given the world a taste of what he is willing to do when officers opened fire on peaceful protesters during morning prayers. There were at least 50 dead on the spot, possibly as many as a 100 in total.
The violence has continued sporadically since then. And while most news outlets conservatively label the violence as "clashes" between anti-Morsi and pro-Morsi factions, the inescapable facts are that all the deaths have been among those protesting the coup and calling for the return of Egypt's hijacked democracy and that many of these deaths have come at the hands of non-uniformed state agents.

The Egyptians that supported Morsi (in what was deemed a fair election) will not vanish. Of course, that whole premise is flawed; democracy without checks and balances (the republican ideal) eventually tramples the rights of the individual who finds himself in the minority.
Few Americans even understand this. It's incomprehensible to the Muslim mindset of absolute submission.
Do I approve of the repression and brutality to come in Egypt? No. But, I cannot see, for the life of me, a better option in relation to American self interest.
It does? Calls to stand up to and fight 'violence and terrorism' paves the way for military action? What are people supposed to do? Just left terror rule over them? Let the terrorists win?
Does not the violence and terrorism perpetrated by the terrorists 'pave the way' for military action? Why not call for an end to the 'violence and terrorism'? Oh yeah, that never works. Only violence works on terrorists.
Well, so be it!
Three weeks ago, Gehad El Haddad divided his time between volunteering for the Muslim Brotherhood and heading the Cairo office of the Clinton Climate Initiative, a nongovernmental organization set up by the former American president.
Mixing practical goals with Islamic values has defined the 30-year-olds life to date. Once a creative entrepreneur, he is now putting all his efforts into the Brotherhoods Renaissance Project.
Renaissance is far more than the electoral program of President Mohamed Morsy or the Brotherhoods political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party. It is a 25-year project to reform state, business and civil society, rooted in the Brotherhoods Islamic values but conditioned by the experiences of the projects founders in the modern economy.
I wonder if the terrorist punk would like cheese with his whine.
Agreed. But, I sense some irrational exuberance on this board over the events in Egypt. What's coming is not going to be pretty or glorious.
The Islamist tide has risen higher than it ever has. The feckless policy of every American President since Reagan has enabled this.
Perhaps lessons have been learned. I wish I could be hopeful.
This prediction of violence and a "civil" war was easy. I predicted this more than a month ago on FR. Then again, I predict many things on FR before they happen. So what? They happen anyway, and it's really not a prediction. Why? Because it's what they do. Just like a Terminator.
It is so easy.
I really think that when Jesus returns, the news will say, "we didn't see that coming."
I live in a land of make believe...

I did not post the piece because I agreed with it. I posted to bring a sense of reality of what lies ahead. These people are not going to fold their tents and quietly shuffle off.
Like. Agree.
Admittedly I’m no expert on Egypt but it seems conditions have deteriorated since the Obama adminstration collaborated in the overthrow of Mubarak.
Mubarak knew full well what the MB was capable of- now anyone can see it (unless you’re the guardian or some at bbc). I don’t know if there’s a pro EGYPT leader lurking anywhere- like a banner I read- Not Christian, Not Muslim, EGYPTIAN..
Bingo!
Which makes you more qualified to run American foreign policy than either the President or the Secretary of State...
They fail to mention, in the article, that 4-6 MBS came out with machine guns blasting...and no wonder the military fought back....this time with real bullits.
I think it’s a mistake to assume the press knows what’s going on....I overheard press people last night saying they had to get to Rabaa where the blood was flowing because that’s what the people want to hear about.
The bottom line is you have hired thugs stirring up and shooting people and the clerics refusing to let the people go home who want to....the Brotherhood leadership is demanding they stay at least until Sunday...the last they openly stated.
Regardless....we know the Brotherhood is a violent organization that will not yield easily nor walk away until there is blood...even when it means they shoot their own..and they do. Rabaa is their “stand off” area....
There will always be oppression in Egypt because muslims are animals and they’re 90% of the population.
Democracy in the muslim world is a game of king of the mountain and winner gets to conduct the slaughter.
This ‘writer’ is lying through his teeth. Every independent report I am seeing belies this account. Think basij in Iran. Hired guns (hamas) from outside and poor young people from the countryside paid to do the jobs normal Egyptians won’t so.
This is from the Guardian, from the far left. The far left is losing in Egypt, which is why they oppose this regime.
I never expect “unbiased” reporting from the Guardian. It is hard to go wrong if you oppose whatever the Guardian is for.
Then, of course, there's the matter of the fact that most 'journalists' have no clue as to how to report what is happening. They write reports with the thought in the back of their minds (what little they have) of a Pulitzer Prize. Spun, as always, to the liberal view.
Bias? They see none. They are the bias!
“I think its a mistake to assume the press knows whats going on...”.
I think it’s a mistake to assume the press REPORTS what’s really going on. That agenda thing, you know.
Exactly
Up until these events, the military was still above it all. The MB messed up by pushing this IMO. Now, the very survival of General Sisi and his senior officers is at stake.
Poor tactical decision by the MB to create bloodshed, but they have a history of poor tactical decisions so I am not surprised. Perfect example of why they can’t run the country. Those who specialize in agitation always make the worst rulers (see our own regime).
This is a propaganda piece written by a liar. For instance, the author posted a photo of a dead woman and children claiming it was from Egypt, killed by the security forces. The photo was from Syria.
To get actual info, the Live Egypt thread has comments from people constantly watchin all the news, including Egyptian media. The MSM in the US and the UK is siding with the Mozlem Brotherhood lies.
