CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian security forces shot dead dozens of supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi on Saturday, witnesses said, days after the army chief called for a popular mandate to wipe out "violence and terrorism".
Men in helmets and black police fatigues fired on crowds gathered before dawn on the fringes of a round-the-clock sit-in near a mosque in northeast Cairo, Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood said.
"They are not shooting to wound, they are shooting to kill," said Brotherhood spokesman Gehad El-Haddad. "The bullet wounds are in the head and chest."
A Muslim Brotherhood website said 120 people had been killed and some 4,500 injured. A Reuters reporter counted 36 bodies at one morgue, while health officials said there were a further 21 corspes in two nearby hospitals.

Suspect that Morsi died resisting the coup (not been heard or seen since July 3). The military is fearful of the the eventual Islamic backlash and has decided to go on a strong pre-emptive offensive. Very bad times ahead for Egypt. The US should not become entangled in the affairs of this foreign country. Its really up to the Egyptians themselves to work out a consensus. Won’t come any time soon and before long hordes of hungry, impoverished but still fervent refugees will be arriving in the lands formerly known as Christendom.
A rabid Islamist that would murder a Christian, kill an American/British/German Tourist, one that would kill its own women for not wearing proper garb, or one that would imprison his detractors is not better than an Islamist who would not do those things. The MB are murdering 4th century thugs who should be exterminated.

This is Egypt for the last 90 years. The MB has always been violent and causing problems. The gov did this same thing in 50s, 60s, and 70s. Nothing has changed.

The current regime is not very business friendly at all. I cant tell how many people that I know that held their jobs for years were laid off or let go and businesses everywhere are suffering. That has been the normal state of the Islamic world for over a thousand years. It took European colonialism combined with the Ottomans to tone it down slightly.

When alkida supporters riot in the streets, the best thing to use is aircraft with incendiary cluster bombs.
They would probably be easier to deal with than the Muslim Brotherhood - they don't have suicide death wishes and understand that their strength is localized - if we ever get a worthy Commander-in-Chief in the WH, many of our enemies might take a different tack.

I’m not sure that’s the case. The people have risen up, demanding an end to the Muslim Brotherhood-led government, and are calling for a more secular government. The military is following the wishes of the people opposed to Islamic terrorists.
