Throughout the summer, Americans for Tax Reform will be highlighting the most outrageous new powers that the IRS will have under the Obamacare law. According to a report from GAO, the IRS is tasked with nearly four dozen new powers under that law. Each day, one will be selected for a brief review.
Thanks to Obamacare, you can no longer buy non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines with your health savings account (HSA) or workplace flex account (FSA).
Abolish the IRS
Hypothesis: Obama’s minions spent the first year or so exploring the bowels of the Federal bureaucracy to find out which agency was the most open to abusing powers in order to curry favor (to grow its own empire). The administration found that the IRS was the most open to this deal with the devil - the proof is the IRS consciously targeting religious and conservative groups. As a reward Obama names the IRS as the enforcement arm of Obamacare, knowing they will use their vast new powers for his and the liberals’ benefit, thus perpetuating the cycle of abuse.
Discuss and debate.
Part of the reason I spend a lot of time trying to figure out alternative medicine is because Government is going to improve medical care and a lot of people to death.
Which seems to be the point of Obama Care, reducing the population under IRS Control. It seems the most compelling part of Obama Care may be agenda 21. There is no other reason to take over non prescription medicine.
Everyone needs to stop paying taxes.
So non prescription medicine will cease to exist. You can look at it on the shelf but not actually buy it without a prescription.
I don't go to the links often on this kinda stuff, but it appears that this might only apply if one wants -- for whatever reason -- to use a HSA to buy aspirin, which would be beyond stupid.
Correct me if this is a non-starter, as it appears to be.
With the FSA you either use it or lose it. At the end of the year if you have fifty bucks left in the account you used to be able to go and pick up OTC stuff that you will need in the future. Cough syrup, band-aids, triple antibiotic ointment, tums and yes, aspirin.
Now you either have to go to your doctor to get a prescription for you to buy these things or you let the Uncle Sugar take your cash and you don't even get a credit.
For starters, because aspirin costs $1 for a year's supply. Try again.
It’s not that you can no longer get OTCs, it’s that you can’t use your Flex or HSA to purchase them. In previous years when I had a few bucks left on my flex, I’d stock up on ibuprofen, acetominofen, cough drops, antacids, H2O2, etc. Now I cannot use my Flex for that. The reason obamacare ended this is because they need those pretax dollars to fund this train wreck.
What is stupid about using pretax dollars with which to make purchases, regardless of product cost? In this economy every penny counts!
Sounds like the Big Pharma Benefit Program to me. Instead of buying that Aleve you’ll ask the doctor for prescription naproxen, and so on.
Correct you if you’re right? Doesn’t that sound a mite arrogant?
Maybe aspirin can be had 40 for a buck at the Dollar Tree. And? Other medications are considerably more. I wish I could get any liquid stomach antacid for that little, for one thing, unless it’s a thumb size vial.
To be clear, this is a tax on people with chronic conditions who's symptoms are eased by OTC medications.
Allergy medication? No longer can you use your HSA/Flex Account to pay for it.
That's just ONE example --- there are literally hundreds more.
You know here’s my read. It’s a control issue. They can stat these Rx’s out the wazoo, the hooks already exist in the databases. They can’t actually tell who bought the band aids or the Maalox or the aspirin without mounds of physical paper.
Apparently you have no idea what a HSA is...sorry to go all-arrogant on you.
I’m of the same mindset. I focus more on how to prevent illness with high quality vitamins, sunshine, paraben free body products, and a whole foods diet. We are huge probiotics fans. I also got rid of hand sanitizers and anti-bac soaps. We use just the plain stuff now. I’d much rather build up our immune systems than get sick and frequently medicate. We also have standing monthly chiropractic adjustments.
“...Id stock up on ibuprofen, acetominofen, cough drops, antacids, H2O2, etc. Now I cannot use my Flex for that. The reason obamacare ended this is because they need those pretax dollars to fund this train wreck.”
Same story here.
The principle remains the same no matter if you can get it for a penny for a thousand years supply. It is your money. You are spending it as it is meant. And they are telling you that you can't do that any more.
So you try again. Tell me how it is just fine with you for the federal government to take money from people and give them no return on it. At the least they could give you a tax credit for the amount they take from your account.
