Pope Francis on Thursday issued the first social manifesto of his young pontificate, telling slum dwellers in Brazil that the world's rich must do much more to wipe out vast inequalities between the haves and the have-nots.
The pope also urged Brazil's youth, who have taken part in recent protests showing discontent with the status quo, to keep alive their "sensitivity towards injustice" and be a catalyst in the fight against corruption.
The first Latin American pope, who has rallied the Church on behalf of the poor and who lives more austerely than his predecessors, called for a "culture of solidarity" to replace the "selfishness and individualism" prevailing in modern society.
"No one can remain insensitive to the inequalities that persist in the world," he told residents of Manguinhos, a sprawling shantytown, or favela, of ramshackle brick dwellings that until recently was overrun by violence and controlled by drug lords.

Sometimes it makes you wonder that its just too stupid to be stupid.
Therefore it is possibly intentional.
I've wondered if the real reason that the church keeps pushing socialism its to purposefully make everyone poor so that when the whole world is destitute and miserable, they will seek refuge in the church.
So many in the church believe that modern wealth is the key reason for the loss of religion's influence among people.
There is a certain twisted logic in making everyone poor in order to "save their souls."
Socialism might seem to be the perfect tool to these types of religious to reduce humanity to the material condition of Medieval Europe where the church held ultimate power in society.
Scary fate to contemplate. But, that’s why the Tea Party and conservatism in general is so important... to remind people of our founding principles and re-grow our awareness of equality of opportunity and dignity of citizens regardless of their means.
I don’t think he is telling the government to give more he is talking to the rich as a group and as individuals - it is good for people to give in a cheerful and happy spirit - it is good for their souls and it is good for those who receive it in the same spirit. As a spiritual leader it is his job to tell us stuff we may not like for our eternal sake that doesn’t make him a commie - being a commie is when you support the governments forcible taking of wealth and assets and redistributing them to those they see fit. There is no generosity of spirit in the giving or receiving and it is a detriment to the well being of both.

"For ye have the poor always with you;"
Matthew 26:6-12
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
.8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation , saying , To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial
You know, the poor *do* have some responsibility for educating themselves and trying to acquire marketable skills. What does he expect the rich to do when the poor won’t do anything?
It is possible to climb out of poverty. One merely needs the right attitude.
How do you practice faith, hope and love alone? How do you celebrate Mass alone and receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus alone?
The Church is Jesus Christ. He never leaves you. He wants you with him. It's your choice. Jesus did say: feed the hungry and so on. I really do feel sorry for the children of the down and out. They do breed, unfortunately, and don't see to the needs of their children.
Oh well, I'm the last person in the world to condemn you. I wish you well--it's not so nice to feel as if the Church, that is Jesus, left you.
By the way, there never will be social justice, never. If it does happen occasionally, it's a fluke, just a fluke. It's not the goal that is ever attainable, but the journey and effort in trying for good. But you know that.
Right now I am going on a journey to the freezer for a smallish bowl of ice cream.
You are assuming that the wealthy are trying to buy their way into heaven. They might not. They just might feel guilty and try to atone.
The poor and rich both behave badly. Bad/good behaviors have little to do with bank accounts. Sinful behavior crosses all races, creeds, both genders and all ages...nothing to do with money. You KNOW that.
Maybe you are thinking that the RICH can afford bad behavior because they can afford fancy schmancy attorneys to bail them out of their bad behaviors. The poor who misbehave just have to LUMP IT.
The Church extols ALL to behave in a godly manner, even the rich.
Why should there be an equal distribution of wealth? Why do the rich who have earned their wealth by productivity and voluntary trade need to give it away? They already gave their products in trade. Why is it immoral to produce wealth and keep it but moral to give it away? Why does someone’s need give them a claim to the life, the work and the property of others? These questions have never been answered rationally. It is fine to help someone voluntarily but to say it is their moral duty to help others is fantastic. Instead of calling for redistribution of wealth the pope should be campaigning for an equal distribution of liberty and for laissez faire capitalism because no other institution has done more to elevate the lot of the common man in the history of the world. It’s not even close.
All the ministers, holy leaders, etc., Catholics, AND the Protestant ministers get tax exemptions--not just Catholics.
Now there are some 30,000-40,000 different Protestant denominations, so that's a LOT of men and women of the cloth getting tax exemptions.
Many of those numerically smaller Protestant denominations would fade into bankruptcy and oblivion without the tax break.

The article mentions that the pope is “demanding” “social justice”
demanding is not asking
and social justice is commie code speak for government confiscation and redistribution.
Although I know this is not funny at all and the “solidarity” and “Social” Justice is pure Communism——I did laugh at your post.
That being said, this pope is becoming a great disappointment. A couple things really bothered me after he was “elected”.
The Catholic Canon is about subsidiarity-—not collectivism!!!! It never was-—it is about individual salvation-—not “collective” salvation, and I am really not liking this “pope” and I do love Thomistic Theology and much about Catholic Traditions/Saints-—pre-Vatican II.
BUT......I have been following the corruption of the Catholic Church (Fr. Oko’s Report on Homoheresy). And I read Pope Pius X encyclical. Pascendi in 1908 or so which warned us about this “take over”-—from inside......and Bella Dodd’s book on the homosexual Marxist infiltration in the 30’s and 40’s....so it is not surprising.....especially since the “jesuits” have “educated” some of the most immoral, radical, vile atheists, that ever existed.
It is amazing to me how “intelligent” Jesuits are—They are brilliant, but can be so incredibly evil. There is nothing more vile and dehumanizing than Marxism and they should understand that—because of the understanding that Catholic Theology has of human nature and Good and Evil/Natural Law.
It is rather disgusting to see the corruption of all our institutions. George Carlins rant on the Illuminati is probably true from the looks of the world. The NWO is in place for the kill. There is nothing to stop them-—nothing.
It’s quite easy actually Ice Cream Fan. I don’t need to be in a church to pray, contemplate and practice my faith...the “building” is unnecessary. Living the life is what it is, at least for me.
HE’S THE POPE...It’s his job to look out for the poor. Yikes, people.
According to the article the Pope is taking to task Rich people for not doing enough for the poor.
The pope not only has his own bank he has his own country (how many rich people can make that claim?)
If i were to have an audience with the pope concerning this matter I would read to him a slightly altered quote from the bible "Let him with all the riches cast the first coin."
Hypocrisy is not to be tolerated, even if it is the Pope engaging in it! The pope has hundreds of billions let him lead by example and put a large dent in the papal coffers. Otherwise he should move on to other matters.
Inequalities will always exist in this world.
Shouldn’t the Pope be concerned more with a man’s soul and not his wealth or lack thereof??? Millions of poor people are not believers. Telling the wealthy to share their wealth won’t save a poor persons soul.
He is not a commie Pope.
Have you every heard about the Works of Mercy?
Feed the hungry
Clothe the naked
Do you get the idea?
And Jesus will say, “Whenever you did it one of these least of my brothers, you did it unto me.”
Good grief, read up on this Pope. He rode the bus to work in Argentina!!!!!!
Do you do that?

And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
