WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to continue the collection of hundreds of millions of Americans' phone records in the fight against terrorism.
The chamber rejected a measure to end the program's authority. The vote was 217-205 on Wednesday.
Republican Rep. Justin Amash had challenged the program as an indiscriminate collection of phone records. His measure, if approved by the full House and Senate and signed by the president, would have ended the program's statutory authority.
The White House, national security experts in Congress and the Republican establishment had lobbied hard against Amash's effort.
Libertarian-leaning conservatives and some liberal Democrats had supported Amash's effort.
The vote was unlikely to settle the debate over privacy rights and government efforts to thwart terrorism
I’m wondering what is Michele Bachmann’s reason for the NO vote.
Disgusting, ain’t it?
“Primary every one of the Big Brother lovers.”
Why? You fire them, then they get a job with goldman sacks or the K street lobbyists and quintuple what they earned in CONgress. And you end up replacing them with another malignant narcissist who will do the same thing in time.
It’s a big, chummy political club. And we’re not in it.
Ryan? He went to Washington to change it. Instead, it changed him.
Forget You Paul Ryan!
They were probably considered domestic terrorists to the governing body of the day as well.
Just sayin’...
at least we can make it as difficult as possible.
“Disgusting, aint it?”
Oh, it was disgusting 15 years ago. It’s pushed right through disgusting, criminal, and treasonous and come to rest upon pathetic.
On this issue, they are worse than the Democrats.
“at least we can make it as difficult as possible.”
Make what difficult? The malignant narcissists won’t lose a wink of sleep. They know they’re set for life. Win or lose their seat, they win.
The problem I think is that conservatives and those of other political persuasions tend to focus on the minor political differences between the two wings of the uniparty and the individuals that make it up, while turning a blind eye at CONgress itself.
Said another way, you wouldn’t look for clean and sober people in a crack house. So why are we surprised when those in CONgress act the way they do?
You got that right.
It’s so hard to find anyone who isn’t a washington insider to defend these votes. Did some scanning of twitter, 4chan, reddit, people are livid out there.
If we had judges and a court system that the Founding Fathers envisioned to uphold The Constitution, this vote would be insignificant, because it would be slapped down in the courts. For a long time judges have been put in place who place THEIR values above ours and now we’re on the verge of banana republic status complete with a two-bit dictator.
Steve King of Iowa voted no? BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Is it time to started shooting back? Or do we let these bastards continue to run over us?
F U B O !!
Michele Bachmann and Steve King are two of the biggest hypocrites I have ever seen!
TX District 13 Rep. Mac Thornberry voted NO as well, and he sits on the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Im running again in 2014 to replace him. Sure could use some Freedom and Liberty loving Constitutional Conservatives to help me with this. Thanks!!!

For years, I’ve said to look at the special, favored constituents behind the politicians—not the politicians. They sponsor the media. They are the alumni. They’re linked with government, and they control it to some extents. Quit buying anything that you don’t really need. Become more self-sufficient. Get to know some of your spooky, technically inclined neighbors, and avoid the socializing busybodies.
If we wait until November 2014 -— when the Primaries are OVER -— it will be TOO LATE. The decisions are made FIRST in the Primaries!!!
A lot of the business as usual politicians in the GOP like my congressman got to look good with their votes.
The leadership that my congressman supported like tax and spend Boehner got their way as well.
The spy program goes on anyway.
Take note of the votes for this program from Peter King of New York, Paul Ryan, Darrell Issa, Phil Gingrey of Georgia and the list goes on......
Well go ahead and sing the hopeless blues if you must, but some people get gumption from God.
