U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said Wednesday that there was "no evidence" a political appointee was involved in the IRS' targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.
In his first network broadcast interview since taking office in February, Lew told "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley that an investigation has shown "there has been no evidence of any political decision making in the IRS."
Asked whether any political appointee had oversight of the decisions that were made around the tea party applications, Lew said, "There has been no evidence of anyone in a political position having been involved in any of those decisions."

My conclusion is that if Lew is to be believed that a political appointee had no hand in the targeting, then it was one or more career employees.
Mine is that the decision was made ABOVE him, not under him.
Worker bees don’t make policy decisions, drones don’t make any decisions.
Only senior administration officials make policy decisions.
There is too much direct evidence that the Obama idiots already gave us, plus a mountain of circumstantial evidence.
The reality is Scarborough smacked Jay Carney hard and accused him of making up the Cincinnati story, which was almost as bad as the Benghazi Video. The “Rogue Agent” canard is exposed as a complete lie. Again - Carney is a liar and I was floored when Scarborough beat him down.
(If we had that real angry and true journalism that Scarborough displayed from the rest of the media - - most likely Obama would not have been re-elected.)
But how are we supposed to believe Jack Lew, when everyone in this administration are just pure political liars, with a lackey press. Stephanie Cutter on the Romney cancer murder, Wasserman Schultz on the Israeli story that they denied, Rice on the video. They lie with hubris! They lie with impunity, knowing they will never be called on the lies.
They depend on the main stream media to bury their bodies for them.

Okay, I can see that. But Lew likely won’t want to point fingers up the food chain.

Former OMB Director Linked to IRS Scandal Located in South Africa

Amid new revelations about the IRS targeting scandal, the Obama administration’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said Tuesday that former OMB head Jeffrey Zients’ extended absence from the United States is due to a family vacation.
OMB’s statement came after The Daily Caller reported that former leader Jeffrey Zients met at the White House with key figures at the Internal Revenue Service just before news broke that the IRS was targeting conservative nonprofit groups for abusive audits and delays.
Zients has still not returned from an overseas exile that began after his departure from the Obama administration in April, two weeks before the IRS scandal broke. A White House source told The Daily Caller that Zients’ absence from the country has been noticeable and concerning.
“Mr. Zients’ wife’s family lives in South Africa. He is visiting them now, as he and his family do every summer,” an OMB spokesperson told Fox News in a statement Tuesday. The agency did not address the concerns raised by the White House source, nor did it provide either the date Zients began his overseas trip or the date he is expected to return
