NASA starts building faster-than-light warp engine Get short URL Published time: July 23, 2013 19:06 Edited time: July 24, 2013 14:39
Researchers at NASAs Texas-based Johnson Space Center are trying to prove that it is possible to travel faster than the speed of light, and hope to one day build an engine that resembles the fictional Starship Enterprise.
NASA physicist and engineer Dr. Harold G. White, 43, believes it is possible to bend the rules of time and space that Albert Einstein constructed when he postulated that it is impossible to exceed the speed of light.
White's research is based on the theories of Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre, who in 1994 theorized that exceeding Einsteins galactic speed limit was possible if scientists discovered a way to harness the expansion and contraction of space. And Harold and his team are trying to do just that.

They just need to use the gravcity-wave engine Bob Lazaar worked on at Area 51 from the crashed alien spacecraft
“Need cavitation, Captain. We need that cavitation so time inside the bubble cannot take hold, before we can trigger the warp drive, Captain. I dunna have a magic wand, Captain, got ta have that cavitation first.”
Don’t worry, it doesn’t work. Faster-than-light speed and the resulting time travel didn’t happen until March 2026. Don’t ask how I know that.

(and just for the record, I do believe it is true 100% - NOT kidding)
As I understand it, the theory predicts that although it is impossible for matter to exceed the speed of light, it IS possible for a parcel of spacetime to do so, and effectively carry along anything inside it at faster-than-light speed. The “drive” they are working on is dealing with microscopic amounts of matter. Assuming it actually works, spaceflight applications are very, very far off. But there are more readily accessible applications in the fields of computers and communication.
Better have good replacement insurance on your windshield! OH and a glass company that makes LONG DISTANCE repairs!
I think I heard of a guy trying to build a time machine in the same way.
He said he’d know when it worked when someone from the future appeared in his lab.
I could not agree more. It's total embellished hype to get people to read it.
BOONDOGGLE
And people wonder why I'm critical of NASA. We have this, and the proposal to kill barred owls to allow spotted owls more mice. We have the executive prosecution of Zimmerman, We have police managing to violate the third amendment, etc. Just when you think it can't get any more absurd, the government proves that it CAN get more absurd. If they're going to waste mone (if ha ha) then why not fo it in style like a bridge to nowhere in Ketchikan Alaska (Oops they've already done that)
They have already perfected the FTL drive. It burns money at twice the speed of light.
Isn't that when they only had crystal radios?
I had one of those--clipped its antenna to my metal headboard and picked up a lot of stations.
Sounds like Ferengi Philosophy.
Sometimes the Laws of Physics Intersect With The Laws of Acquisition.
The only thing NASA is doing is looking for more money by proposing another pie-in-the-sky idea that the government is (in)famous for.
As long as 0-bomb-a is running the show, NASA will be nothing more than a political dog and pony show.
Yeah...I’ve been going through a lot of changes lately.
LOL!
Sorry..., me too.
I’d rather have a flux capacitor to go back and undo the last 30 years or so of political hacks.
What are those?
and this is going to make Muslims feel better about themselves HOW exactly?
