I think its partly about debt. America has a massive and growing debt and congress is trying to stave off another credit downgrade under the false belief that the illegals will be taxpayers.

Naive.

They need to push through their socialist agenda before the economy collapses.

Trillions of dollars created annually, it will end badly.

That’s driving their sense of urgency, a perverse git ‘er done mentality.

I do not understand the Republican "leadership."

If (from a previous comment by PeteB570) the GOPe is big business and big business wants lots of low skilled labor to drive down employment costs, how does this help the Republicans at the ballot box?

It doesn't!

So more Democrats get elected who are anti-big business.

So this does not ultimately help big business as well.

So this will not help the Republican party short or long term. Nor will it ultimately help big business. So why is there such a push for this now, or better, RIGHT NOW!?

Millions of parents take and raise their kids legally in other countries without thereby earning local citizenship for them. And it-s not considered a hardship or some sort of human rights abuse.

There is absolutely no reason to so think those brought here illegally.

All that needs to be done is compare them to the children of parents living abroad anywhere else.

Why Are Republicans Bent on Pushing Amnesty Now?

They want to get rid of the issue. Many of them don't have the backbone to keep fighting the Dims and the media.

No mas, no mas!

The reality is that there is a shadow organization calling itself the GOP—but is just a “kept opposition” for appearances sake.
They may talk a lot, but do not actually oppose anything important. They keep up appearances for elections—AND collect a lot of money that can be spread around amongst the media, “consultants” and permamant hangers-on.

Kind of like a “safety valve” on a boiler. It prevents explosions FOR A WHILE.

“So why on earth would Republicans push for amnesty, especially after the Senate bill has been ridiculed and repudiated?”

Money. It’s the life blood of the country clubber set. It sure as hell isn’t for votes. It also illustrates the abject cynicism of the GOPe and it’s utter contempt for its constituents.

The GOPe are traitors. They have infested the Republican party to do exactly this. With these traitors in our midst even when we do manage to win they desperately try to clutch for defeat. We need to purge them from our party or form a new party without them, one that requires adherence to the national platform in order to maintain membership.

the amnesty bill the Senate passed yesterday is a sad betrayal of working class Americans of every ethnicity who will see their wages lowered and their upward mobility lowered too. And yet we still do not have a secured border. This Senate-approved amnesty bill rewards lawbreakers and won’t solve any problems – as the CBO report notes that millions of more illegal immigrants will continue to flood the U.S. in coming years. - Sarah Palin

I don’t blame politicians for “playing politics” frankly its part of their nature. However Republicans pushing for amnesty is “anti-political” its simply the suicide of the two party system.
Now assuming the people in charge aren’t schizophrenic they must have some idea what they are actually doing and what part they are playing in their own self destruction, one has to think of another reason as to why they are pushing amnesty. It can’t be to get votes, that doesn’t even make sense even with the most delusional wishful thinking

It can’t be to “increase tax paying base” because, they aren’t going to be tax payers for a few generations (I can’t remember off hand how long it takes immigrants to turn from net negative to net positive for the economy)

It begs the question why would the republicans do this??? Are they being paid off?? Some very rich people must want cheap labor and are giving the republicans some very nice presents.

Now? The GOP has been pushing amnesty since at least 1999, if not longer. This latest effort is merely getting on board with the dems for codification so they don’t miss out on their slice of the pie when it’s cooked.

Mickey Kaus explained this succinctly and cogently years ago.

The Dream Act is the stalking horse for amnesty.

There's a reason why leftists like Zoe Lofgren love to trot out that one Vietnamese valedictorian as they lobby to legalize 20 million largely unskilled aliens.

Everything else you heard yesterday by Gowdy et. al about "limiting" this monstrosity was just a continuation of the dog an pony show.

It began with the illegal, unconstitutional DACA, but it certainly wasn't going to end there. Anyone who thought it would, including "Republican" members of Congress, was delusional.
