I understand what you are thinking. If you are watching the political process, you are probably thinking, as a sane person, that Republicans would completely ignore amnesty and focus on what’s important. After all, the country is focused on other trivial news, summer vacations, and the scandals. After August, the main fights will be over funding Obamacare, the budget, and the debt ceiling.
So why on earth would Republicans push for amnesty, especially after the Senate bill has been ridiculed and repudiated? Why would they bail out Obama at his weakest moment? Why would they agree to the premise that we must have some form of amnesty now, thereby bleeding conservatives dry on the issue – drip by drip?
There is no good answer to these questions other than the fact that Republican leaders are looking for a new base. Unfortunately, their dictates are strong enough to percolate down to the committee chairmen. Trey Gowdy’s subcommittee on immigration held a hearing today on the Dream Act – a mass amnesty bill that will grant citizenship and welfare rights to a large population of illegals. Basically, we control the House, but are using the committee hearings to promote Democrat policies.
Here is what the committee leaders had to say:
“I do not believe that parents who made the decision to illegally enter the U.S. while forcing their children to join them should be afforded the same treatment as these kids,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) said.
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who chairs the House subcommittee that oversees immigration issues, said children are treated differently in nearly all facets of life and are seen as a “special protected class.” That was why the younger immigrants should have a separate solution than those of their parents, Gowdy argued.
“Attempts to group the entire 11 million into one homogenous group in an effort to secure a political remedy will only wind up hurting the most vulnerable,” Gowdy said in his opening comments.
The problem is that these people are not vulnerable and they are not in the shadows. They testify openly before Congress; they disrupt committee hearings; they harass members of Congress in their offices. There is no national emergency to deal with this issue now.
Moreover, there are a number of problems that are being overlooked in this process:
I’m seeing too many good members getting conned by leadership. They are injecting their abstract sympathies, which may be appropriate in the right time, into a political process that will not end well. If we had a president who was willing to enforce the laws and work with Congress to cut off the magnet of future waves of illegal migration, then we could discuss such a proposal.
Any discussion of this now will only lend credence to the Democrat premise of inevitability, give Obama cover for his other failures, and immediately incentivize new waves of illegal immigration. Instead of the narrative revolving around how much up-front enforcement Democrats are willing to agree to, the storyline will be dominated by how much amnesty Republicans are willing to talk about as a precondition to negotiations.
So if you are putting your faith in the Republican House to stop this amnesty, remember not to use logic when crafting that assumption. Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell want this badly, and they are not giving up.
Bingo. I get tired of hearing about "naive" or "inept" politicians. Wrong. They are very calculating and pure evil.
The reality is that there is a shadow organization calling itself the GOP—but is just a “kept opposition” for appearances sake.
They may talk a lot, but do not actually oppose anything important. They keep up appearances for elections—AND collect a lot of money that can be spread around amongst the media, “consultants” and permamant hangers-on.
Kind of like a “safety valve” on a boiler. It prevents explosions FOR A WHILE.

Money. It’s the life blood of the country clubber set. It sure as hell isn’t for votes. It also illustrates the abject cynicism of the GOPe and it’s utter contempt for its constituents.
The GOPe are traitors. They have infested the Republican party to do exactly this. With these traitors in our midst even when we do manage to win they desperately try to clutch for defeat. We need to purge them from our party or form a new party without them, one that requires adherence to the national platform in order to maintain membership.
I don’t think it has anything to do with their intellect. I think it has everything to do with money, and power. (In some cases the money being the power)
Who wants Amnesty!? BIG business wants cheap labor, and amnesty would be one major source of cheap labor.
Contrary to the Democrat projection “the Republican Party is the party of the rich” it’s the Democrats that have the advantage of BIG money behind them. Leftist run, Leftist leaning BIG business wants amnesty, and the Left leaning Republicans are right in there with the Leftist Democrats willing to destroy this country for the money, the power siding with such BIG business will provide them personally.
We must never forget either that much of that BIG money is foreign. Transnational Corporate money with no allegiance to any Nation much less the United States. Open borders is what they want. Open borders for profits. The World for the taking.
We have to understand who they are, and once we know who they are we can then determine what their goals are, and then we can work to stop them. Right now we are being plyed with the liquor of disinformation to skew our focus so we won’t see the rape coming.
It is my opinion we are on the defensive with foreign Nations, BIG Transnational Corporations, Leftist NGO’s, in support of the U.N. all against America’s support of Liberty around the World as well the aspirations of the dangerous Islamic kooks of the ME, and around the World.
We need to flush the Congressional bowl. Clean it out. Put true Americans with America as their one, and only priority in place, and eliminate all the Leftist mischief from the Federal government we possibly can.
It’s the money, the power they seek for themselves sacrificing you, and me in the process.
I guess you’re right in suggesting that it’s for a short term gain and to hell with what it creates down the road.
It’s rather like Detroit’s unsolvable mess. The automakers caved in to labor’s demands which solved their immediate problem. The reckoning day comes and they’re in trouble. The bigger problem is that all other manufacturing companies were forced to follow the automakers’ lead.
As the profit margins slim or disappear those companies fail and are forgotten, or they move operations first to the south and then to overseas locations.
The chickens have indeed come home to roost and America is in the fight of its life with the cards stacked against her with a complete America-hating idiot in the White Hut and a Congress made up of fruitcakes and cowards.

They have learned that it is more profitable to game the system than it is to fight the system.
I wrote Senator Corker a letter warning him not to vote for immigration bill that had security down the road.
He sent me a 4 page reply with 2 or 3 extra pages describing the extreme measures included to assure secure the borders.
He actually believes in the fact we live in an America where the President abides by the law. He actually thinks the president will enforce the security measures in a timely fashion.
Corker is a damned fool
I don’t blame politicians for “playing politics” frankly its part of their nature. However Republicans pushing for amnesty is “anti-political” its simply the suicide of the two party system.
Now assuming the people in charge aren’t schizophrenic they must have some idea what they are actually doing and what part they are playing in their own self destruction, one has to think of another reason as to why they are pushing amnesty. It can’t be to get votes, that doesn’t even make sense even with the most delusional wishful thinking
It can’t be to “increase tax paying base” because, they aren’t going to be tax payers for a few generations (I can’t remember off hand how long it takes immigrants to turn from net negative to net positive for the economy)

Everything else you heard yesterday by Gowdy et. al about "limiting" this monstrosity was just a continuation of the dog an pony show.
It began with the illegal, unconstitutional DACA, but it certainly wasn't going to end there. Anyone who thought it would, including "Republican" members of Congress, was delusional.

The urgency for addressing “comprehensive immigration reform” is coming from two sources: the Obama administration and the coporate paymasters. There are two objectives in play.
The Dems want amnesty so they can make themselves the permanent major party sooner. Under the current immigration policies, they will become the permanent majority party anyway. Amnesty just hastens the process.
The Reps want a massive increase in guest workers as demanded by their corporate paymasters. They will concede almost anything to get it.
Religious, labor, and ethnic groups are supporting it for reasons of power, money, and increased constituencies even if it means destruction of the country.
The big losers are the American worker and the country, which will be flooded by cheap labor from the Third World.
And while Gowdy et al. were spouting off their inanities about fairness for illegals yesterday, Pew was releasing its poll showing illegals prefer Dhimms 8-1.
The Stupid Party just keeps getting stupider while poking its base in the eye.
I won’t send a penny to any of these jerks lining up behind any form of amnesty, even if they may be somewhat solid in other areas. Immigration is killing us.
They want to help big business (someone mentioned that) which I'm sure will help their campaign coffers.
They are stupid and think the leftist will stop calling them heartless for picking on innocence children. (They had to make it about the children like they always do- except with abortion, then it's about the woman and her body)
They are looking for a new base OR maybe they want to abandon conservatives, thinking they can do what liberals do and call the left, too far left and the right, too far right, and portray themselves as centrist. They can't see that their base is 70% conservative, and assume we will vote for them because we where else will we go? They want to believe that conservatives did vote for romney, and that they just need to get more independents.
Until conservatives in bulk, make it clear we will not march left with them, they will continue to “use” us to gain power. We need to seriously look at a third party. The problem is the same as we have with the primary. Everyone goes in different directions.
