While angry crowds rallied in 100 cities this weekend to protest George Zimmermans acquittal in the high-profile Trayvon Martin case, Floridians quietly proved they are satisfied with the trials results. A recent poll reveals their approval of the jurys decision and, perhaps more interesting, their disapproval of the presidents handling of race relations since his inauguration.
Viewpoint Florida asked 900 people, most of whom were Democrats, for their opinions on Zimmermans not guilty verdict. A majority, 56 percent, believe the jury got it right and 63 percent felt Zimmerman should not have to face federal hate crime charges.
Also intriguing was Question #5, which read, In your opinion, have race relations in the United States gotten better or worse since Barack Obama took office almost 5 years ago, or have they stayed about the same? Fifty-three percent answered that race relations have deteriorated since Obamas inauguration, with only 10 percent saying theyve improved.
This disappointing perception is not limited to Florida. When Obama first took office, Americans were overwhelmingly optimistic about bridging the countrys racial divide. A Gallup poll taken the day after Obama secured the presidency in 2008 showed that 70 percent of Americans believed race relations would improve. But, two years later, these expectations had a stark meeting with reality when only 48 percent of blacks and 31 percent of whites said relations had positively progressed.
Of course, the poor state of race relations isnt directly linked to the president, but the string of racially dividing comments hes made since taking office certainly havent helped. For instance, lets not forget the time he accused police in Cambridge, Massachusetts of acting stupidly" for arresting a prominent black Harvard professor after a confrontation in his home. Although the cop in question acted a bit prematurely, Obamas insensitive comment only encouraged racial hostilities. Likewise, Obamas speeches regarding Trayvon Martin have heated rather than simmered these tensions. Last year, the president stated, If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon, which set off a firestorm from conservatives who charged he was being divisive and clearly taking sides. His recent speech regarding the case and verdict have also been criticized for again bringing race into the conversation, declaring, Trayvon could have been me 35 years ago. Instead of focusing on the facts and evidence presented by the defense and prosecution, Obamas narrow focus on skin color caused him to jump to unfair conclusions.
So, with his subtle, yet clearly racial comments, it seems the president who many hoped would lead us to a post-racial America has only made us less color-blind.
It’s really very simple.
If you claim A (white racism) causes B (black dysfunction), then as B gets worse you must by definition believe that A is getting worse to cause it.
As actual examples of A diminish you must blow out of proportion those remaining and/or invent some when necessary.
The alternative is to face the horrifying possibility that B at present has little to do with A. Which would require facing your own responsibility for the mess you’re in.
The sad part here is that for the last few decades I think American whites have shown astonishing good will toward American blacks. But I also think the race card is getting ready to bounce. I know mine is. And that is very sad.
OTOH, if A makes a resurgence as people just get tired of the nonsense, then they will have a real excuse for B again, which might make them happy.
They have turned the Justice Dept. into the “Just US” Dept (Black Panther case).....they have been SO biased FOR Blacks and AGAINST WHITES and CONSERVATIVES......we are a LAWLESS country right now.
FReepers have known for a long time that Democrats keep blacks on their plantation and agitate them as needed for political reasons. There’s nothing new about what Obama is doing.
Good logic here, Sherman, but not unfortunately something the the American people can understand.
It’s not new, but the American people have been sold the mantra of “civil rights” for a generation, and they know little else.
Duh !
United States whites have already paid their dues for slavery of the past. It was called The Civil War. Paid in full with both white and black blood. Now STFU and get to work!
Those who run the racial grievance industry have done such a good job separating urban blacks from mainstream America that at this point whites view them as a hostile foreign presence. As a result, many people could care less about their murder and crime rates, as long as they don’t see them; seeing Chicago’s crime on the news is no different than reading about it in Brazil.
Great post!
Gee whiz, you’d think with a president and an AG who go out of their way to stoke racial animosity and resentment, things would be a lot better. (snicker)
If people responded honestly, it would be 100%, not 56%.
Whether you're an O'Reilly fan or NOT, this "Talking Points" memo is EPIC for primetime TV.

How about polling the entire nation?
The time is coming (and odumbo is promoting it) when there WILL BE civil war between blacks and “others”. The blacks are causing these problems and the civil unrest themselves.
They didn’t get their way in the Zimmerman trial and the rest of the country will now pay for it one way or another.
I truely feel sorry for those “good blacks” who become real victims of their brain dead “brothas”.
Have a look at this. I think you’ll enjoy it as well as it being an eye-opener.
