The hearing will address education, unemployment incarceration and other challenges.
Young, African-American men are disproportionately more likely to be incarcerated. Their unemployment rate for June was 13 percent. A study by the Schott Foundation for Public Education found that just 52 percent graduated from high school in 2009-10.
Black lawmakers on Capitol Hill in March established the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys to raise awareness about issues like these that disproportionately affect this demographic. On July 24, the group will hold its first hearing, titled "The Status of Black Males: Ensuring Our Boys Mature Into Strong Men."
The timing of the hearing, a little more than a week after the George Zimmerman verdict, is coincidental, said D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, a co-chair of the caucus, but the inaugural effort to get the nation to address the challenges facing African-American males is "right on time."
Pointing to barriers to success, such as the likelihood of being racially profiled, having little or no access to quality health care or to have suffered from gun violence, Rep. Danny Davis called for the end of these and other disparities.

Blacks in small communities are more likely to work, are good neighbors, have far less of the welfare thing going on. They’re self-sufficient.
They’re salt of the earth people. I admire them compared to their counterparts within their own race.
They should be treated with a lot of respect for doing the right thing.
...or not having a father in the home, or being ridiculed by your peers for trying to succeed, or being enslaved by the "benevolence" of generations of social programs, etc., etc., etc...
The fact is that blacks are not worried about divisiveness, I believe their actions prove that. Their constant whining.
They aren’t worried about divisiveness, they just want to come out on top of it.
They want the white man under their feet, so they can treat us like the white man was treated in South Africa. They just about have us too.
See how politically correct the black race is when they get in charge. Obama has given us a taste with Eric Holder and others and Muslims in his cabinet. Two female appointments to the Supreme Court with doubtful sexual preferences.
Republicans stand around watching it with their hands in their pockets. Boehner and McConnell are pathetic as his opponents. Elect a Democrat House this next election, and you aint seen nothing yet.
Yes, 'profiled'... as being likely criminals... which statistically they are... As in not being well educated - which statistically they are... As in having a chip on their shoulder - which they usually have...
Here's the solution: Blacks need to BECOME what they want us to believe they are... Dump the gangs, murders and rapes and GROW THE HELL UP.
